Let's beat this horse.. 2nd Gen Steering.

I just finished going completely through the front end of my truck today, new control arms, springs, ball joints and shocks. The stock tie rods are looking a bit ragged and don't appear to like the new angles on everything so I'm ready to upgrade. What is the verdict on the 09 steering? Will it fit on an 01 running the factory aluminum wheels or not? I would prefer to hear it from someone who has done it before I drop the $$ on it.

For anyone with a 4wd, if you have steering issues and have not addressed the control arms, do so, major difference in mine.

We just used the 98/99HD inverted T steering. It's nice and fits.

For a 99 with very sloppy steering what should I replace or what should I go with? Read a lot of the HD steering in my year which I'm guessing I have and the 4th gen stuff. I already have an aftermarket adjustable track bar and control arms but I've never touched anything else and I've had the truck since '03.

If the track bar and links are tight, you're down to the steering box and tie rod. I put a steering box brace in mine and it helped a lot, next I'm putting a borgeson quick ratio box and borgeson shaft in when I get time.

I went thought the steering woes on my 99- fresh tie rods, track bar, and steering brace... no better. Borgeson Steering box and shaft turned mine in to a totally difference truck. Now I can easily one hand it with my 24ft box trailer.

The upgraded steering from mopar seems to be a pretty good deal if it works. From what I read it is a bolt on for 01-02 trucks for sure and I guess we will see what comes back on the older trucks.

mopar part number 52122362AF
Found it on factorymoparparts.com for $241.50

Maybe I'm stupid, but if I get this kit do I have to get a steering stabilizer shock, too? Or does my stock one bolt up?

Check out the kits at dodgeoffroad.com. Danny has the best stuff for 2nd gens.

As far as stock trucks go, what about the 98-99 HD steering in a 00-02 truck? Is it direct bolt in? same pitman arm? I wanted to do the 08.5 steering in my 01 but heard theres a big recall on it?

Already went over his stuff in this thread. Im passing cause his brace has some pretty pathetic welding on it. Good idea, just need to find someone that can weld.

Everyone talks about those braces do they really work that well just threw tie robs control arms ilder arm pitman arm etc and still have it but if it will really work than I'm going tk grab a brace here any info for 2wd guys ?

Mine made a huge difference, not sure about 2wd's though.

Some 4th gen guys have broken it on their trucks at low speed sharp turns, but I haven't heard of a recall. 98-99 will not fit on the newer axles. I love the 08.5 steering on my 01

Ordered my sinister brace from thoroughbred last week. It should be here next week sometime. When I get her installed ill take pictures and measure before/after play in the wheel. Also there is a rut in the road that likes to guide me ill take it down that before and after to see if it helps lol.

Went by the local dealer today with the part # and price on the 08.5+ steering. They had one on the shelf. No shipping charges, no waiting, was worth the extra $50 over the price from the website. After carrying out the box, I'm not sure I didn't save some $$$ over an online purchase since the box is rather heavy and quite large, shipping would not be cheap.

The factory 08.5 steering kit has non greaseable TRE's though correct? Also, Ive been hearing mixed stories, on the 00-02 trucks will the factory aluminum 16s clear the 4th gen steering? I know it has been mentioned but does anyone run those wheels with that steering in the 00-02 trucks and not have any clearance issues? Any ways of making them fit if they did rub some?
