my block just cracked

drill a hole at each end of the crack to keep it from spreading, make a plate out of 1/8" steel thats an inch or so longer than the crack, and 1-2" tall. with a hole in each corner and maybe some in between if its long. drill and tap the block 1/4x20. cover the plate in rtv, and bolt it on

Great idea!!!

Check the lower driver's side near the front of the engine...just above the oilpan for a number cast on the block..

well i heard the stories and have some friends with a 53 block and seem to hold up but mine just cracked and im going crazy. i love my truck and think so highy of cummins trucks but i dont know what to do. i dont have the money to go to a common rail and problry dont have the money to fix this thing. lol i bought this truck and didnt know anything a bout a 53 block but i know now so where do i go.doineedto fix it and sell it and loose my on it with all the vps i bought for it and just bought the quadzilla addiline and all kinds of other performance parts r do i keep it and fight it help. where can i get it fixed r maybe fix it myself

Call cummins, they replaced my 53 block with 140k miles under full parts warranty including block, bearings, gaskets. I had to pay labor, but they covered all parts 100%. I dropped the engine off & watched the guy build my new engine while I waited. They even painted it black when it was done.:rockwoot: In the end, I paid $1700. for labor, but didn't have to spin one bolt.

what # did u call and if u have it i would like to get it from u to tell them about this but i have 231,000 on this truck now

I belive it was 1-800-cummins, but its been a while. My truck was nearly stock at that time. I've heard that they still cover the parts for guys with cracked blocks.

or international? we have a thread going on cummins forum under general cummins high performance iirc.

call to cummins did not do to well they wanted about ten thousand for the setup but i had a buddy on here with a motor that i was going to get cheap and i decided to trade it in for my old lady a new car. lol they gave me three for it.but they still seem to screw people over but i think i got them this time. now im on the look for a older 12v r maybe try a d max i dont know i loved my cummins but this might have broke me on them so i might buy a d maxx and get the efi live setup on it what do yall think i have been a cummins guy since i started driving and just now got over the 500 hp mark with my cummins and poof lol i want some serious power and i love to work on the cummins so easy and simply a basic motor thats why i would like to stay with cummins what yall think

I would definately stick with Cummins....just not a 53 block next time. You think a Cummins make a poof sound, wait till you hear a Dmax rod.:hehe:

if your looking for simplicity in an engine...stay away from the dmax
