My build up of "daddy's money"

Well my parts have begun to arrive. I bought my FMW 68 of a buddy who ran it for a while and decided to go bigger  my hamilton goodies have been ordered and should be here tomorrow! I'm ordering the ARP's and hopefully a Steed this week and after that its just little things that i need to get to complete the build.

now for my questions and yes I've searched:

im still looking for some input on the coolant bypass. fleece is selling a kit now that is Tstat based rather than pressure. has anyone here used it? any pros or cons compared to the other kinds?

also i was thinking about getting an Air Boss from puredieselpower but im not sure if its worth the 300$ more with my build so any input on that would be great as well.

as far as oil lines for the 68, what should i do? im going to be mounting it 2nd gen style so im pretty sure a factory feed line wont work, should i make one out of AN fittings and line? puredieselpower also has oil drain lines at different lenghts so i was hoping someone had installed a s400 style turbo this way and knew what size would be good for me.

only got a 2 new pictures, once the rest of the stuff comes in ill post more and ill have plenty of the build once i start!

When I logged in the screen said I hadn't posted in a couple weeks and I should answer a questions or perhaps even ask one of my own. Here is my question, but it is also an answer. Its like inception. Why don't you just leave it at Alex's house for 4 hours then give him teas and call it done? lol

Well for one, he hates electronic injection. Two, he hates my truck and if I have him do it all ill never hear the end of it. Lol

now the lights are almost too bright at night so im working on a way to either tint them darker or flip the switches so when they're on the lights point down and not in my eyes.

Black sharpie. Not joking. It'll tint the lights nicely.

get studs on that bad boy very soon. and the bypass. play it safe sir

Got my Hamilton stuff in the mail. Super pumped, been calling around today trying to find a steed and haven't been able too. Looking like 3weeks before I see one :( well see how that goes I guess. Probably starting to tear her apart this weekend.

My sister was all "I'm trying to cook dinner here" and I was like, " woman do you see these extreme duty pushrods and valve springs??!! Dinner can wait"

Tara tripped and fell one afternoon in my dining room. There was a turbo on the brand new hardwood floor lol.

Of everything going on here, I am most intrigued by the billet oil cap.....

Of everything going on here, I am most intrigued by the billet oil cap.....

Previous owner didn't put cap back on after oil change and it fell into the exhaust manifold and melted half of it. Oil all over the fabric on underside of hood and such. So yeah....there's that.

I bought one too, but mine is powdercoated black and my stock cap if perfectly fine.

Okay so i got caught up with life and haven't updated this at all. the trucks back together and it was quite the adventure getting there. i have a bunch of pics so I'm going to start posting them up now.

I got the motor out and got it on a stand.

i had the head O-ringed by a machine shop right outside of Providence RI.

While that was being done i stripped the block down and primed it.

i got the studs in the block, put new main and rod bearings in and put the 110lb valve springs in.

the only snag on my end through out this was me snapping the cam in half putting the gear on it.... i got a little heavy handed with the dead blow hammer after heating up the cam gear and SNAP. that ended the night for me that night....

the guys at hamilton took care of me and i got a replacement cam sent out and had it in the motor WITHOUT using my dead blow hammer about a week later.

once i had the head on the block i painted the motor burnt orange. i used VHT motor paint from advance auto parts.

a few pics of the paint. it looks a lot different depending on the light but in person its very close to the color orange the daytona hemi pickups came in.

after getting the paint looking good i started bolting on goodies. i got the injectors in, coolant bypass from fleece on, put my air boss from glacier on the head and painted and installed the fuel rail/lines. they were all corroded from the northern winters up here so i cleaned them up and gave them a coat of black enamel.

don't mind the cat treats.

i had a local guy polish my cover on the 67.7 and another guy ceramic coat the exhaust housing. they both came out beautifully and they're still holding up well, the exhaust housing not as much as i had hoped.

i ended up getting a comp version of the steed speed and I'm very happy with it. it made the down pipe install a bit more tricky but it all worked out in the end.

i bolted on all the goodies for a mock up and snapped some pics.

i got the crane hooked up too her and slapped it back into the truck. it went in quite a big easier than it came out.

overall i enjoyed the whole process other than the cam snapping in two. the only thing i wished i had done was put a set of 12V rods in while i had it all apart. right after i got it running the Airdog i had on the truck died and i had to replace it. the metal ends of the lines were junk as well so i ordered a bunch of stainless line and AN fittings and redid all the lines with that. they look great and should last much longer than the blue lines with the metal ends did. i also installed a beans diesel one bolt sump which i also love.

i had my existing EFI live tunes updated and made into CSP5 tunes by Mike at ATP Trucks. so far I'm real pleased with the switchable tuning. I've been using my V2 to switch tunes but I'm planning on installing my switch this week. i Dyno-ed my truck right before christmas with my max effort tune from ATP and it made 603hp. it didn't register a TQ reading. wasn't a load dyno so I'm not sure how accurate it was. had a little trouble getting it to spool the charger. I'm in the process of sending my 45% injectors back to exergy and having them bumped up too 100% overs. I'm definitely in need of more fuel, I've got plenty of air so once i do that ill see what i get for numbers. I'm looking for 750ish for now. i only have a 60% over pump from T&C so well see how much i can squeeze out of it for fuel.

that pretty much brings me up to date with the build. i put a mac hytech cover on the rear end and a bunch of other regular maintenance things but thats not really picture worthy in this section. ill post up some more once i get the injectors played with and go from there.
