One thing led to another. Build thread.

How are you doing the windows on those doors? Lexan? Up and down? Removable?

I'm working on widening my low deck trailer to 102", and making the fenders removable so I can load and unload the truck without a tire/wheel swap. Also makes it work for hauling business equipment.

Hello tax write-off! :cheer:

It's interesting looking at boring little details, like the weight of different steering wheels, and aluminum screws (for windows) vs. ss screws. Even 1/16" difference between a jam nut and a standard nut adds up when you're using 300 of them.

I have to say your attention to weight savings is extremely impressive...have you talked to Bodacious yet? He's the only guy as obsessed with weight as you are, he may have some ideas.

Have you thought about deleting the wheel brakes, and going with pinion brakes? I don't even know if it would work on a drag vehicle, or how much weight it would save, but it's an idea...

It seems if you're goin this far, you should check out these guys, store.mettec.com. We weighed out the difference of switching all the bolts in our race cars from grade 8 steel, to Ti. Ended up being about 70 lbs, and just as strong.

I'll look him up on yb.
I'll probably keep a traditional braking system unless i have to add something for staging.

Saved the link for when i hit the lottery! Hah
I need them as a sponsor. Cool stuff!

I love your attention to detail. Very jealous.

Cory at dow brothers race cars gets most of the credit for that. I've corrupted him into weighing every part that goes on or comes off.

Passenger seat mount:
Cory asked me how I wanted the upper mount to be built. I made a couple suggestions, one of them being fairly simple and quick to build. He gave it some thought and came back with the bracket you see here. Quite a bit more involved than what I suggested, but way nicer. Not many guys today would opt out of the easy way if given the chance, especially on a part that is basically hidden away. :Cheer:

A safe place to sit. I was going to mount my laptop there, but then i realized i could put you there -- holding a laptop.

Good idea haha. I like those glass doors and all the detail work a lot

Any plans for final color what?

Painting everything to match the factory silver color. No graphics. With the stock wheels installed, it shouldn't even get attention in a parking lot. I wan't it to look as stock as possible until you get up close to it.

That will be pretty cool!!! If you bring it out this way when it's done, I'd love to shoot it for a feature. Otherwise since you're out west we can make arrangements for one of the staff editors to shoot it out there in Cali. Even if I don't shoot it, I'd love to see it compete out this way!

Thank you. If it runs good enough to compete, it might make it out of CA.

Window net is in with the gm style latches. Hopefully I can get a race or two out of it before the cert expires.

This will probably set back the progress on my build a little, but I won't be stuck if I hurt a block in the middle of next season.

Just curious why you started with such a nice truck just to tear it all apart?
