This is a tire rule in a local association that i woud like to get rid of and just go to dot legal tire. I would like opinons and help with reasons to get rid of this.
All tires must carry a D.O.T. number on the sidewall. No cut, altered or sharpened tires. All trucks are limited to 62” of tire section width total in any combination. Section width on a metric tire is determined by taking the first # (section width) divided by 25.4 Example: 285/75R16, 285 divided by 25.4 equals 11.22 inches of section for that tire tread.
Heres the line of bs for this rull but i would be ashamed too if a ve pump dually out pulled me.
A dually shouldn't have an unfair advantage over a single rear wheel truck just because they have six tires insted of four. This is why the rule was created. Dual tires purpose from the factory was not for traction, it was for load weight rating on the tires. I also believe an addition to the rules needs to be non dually trucks can not run dual tires in the rear. I know of a couple trucks doing just this because of more traction. To me this is a safety issue because the tires are not covered by a wheel well.
I believe the 62" total section width is fair. Set your truck up and this will work fine along with keeping you from breaking ****. If you want to have exactly 62" of section width run 4 - 15.5" tires
Also consider the guy who made this rule has 2.8 duramax engine fully built by a well know source and hes worried my little vp truck will out pull him if i run drw.
