This is a tire rule in a local association that i woud like to get rid of and just go to dot legal tire. I would like opinons and help with reasons to get rid of this.

All tires must carry a D.O.T. number on the sidewall. No cut, altered or sharpened tires. All trucks are limited to 62” of tire section width total in any combination. Section width on a metric tire is determined by taking the first # (section width) divided by 25.4 Example: 285/75R16, 285 divided by 25.4 equals 11.22 inches of section for that tire tread.

Heres the line of bs for this rull but i would be ashamed too if a ve pump dually out pulled me.

A dually shouldn't have an unfair advantage over a single rear wheel truck just because they have six tires insted of four. This is why the rule was created. Dual tires purpose from the factory was not for traction, it was for load weight rating on the tires. I also believe an addition to the rules needs to be non dually trucks can not run dual tires in the rear. I know of a couple trucks doing just this because of more traction. To me this is a safety issue because the tires are not covered by a wheel well.

I believe the 62" total section width is fair. Set your truck up and this will work fine along with keeping you from breaking ****. If you want to have exactly 62" of section width run 4 - 15.5" tires

Also consider the guy who made this rule has 2.8 duramax engine fully built by a well know source and hes worried my little vp truck will out pull him if i run drw.

You are going to see a few of the big org. go to the tires have to be covered rule or they have to come off for saftey reasons in 2010. After Scheids and the windsheild getting knocked out of the sled i kinda have to agree with the rule espesially guys running a tire and a half out side the bed but then they should not let the dually trucks have them either it should be singles all the way around

I have no problem with them goin with the safety thing but at least change it for the dually trucks that somewhat cover the wheels. The truck that broke the windshield at scheid has a dually bed . I know a few people who cant pull because they run 285s on their duallys and cant even go hook for fun. This rule is for their 2.8 and work stock class. I believe they are trying to go with 2.5 instead of 2.6 class for work stock/street class as it was stock appearing. Theres a stupid reason for goin to 2.5 also.

sound like bs but i make our rules on our pull and the stock class is tough lol not to mention the street classs lol

I think it should be singles on the rear no matter what. Not only saftey but cost as well. $.02

If you cant afford it thats your own problem at least how i look at it im just trying to keep up with a duramax that has a 40k+ engine in it.

Kinda sounds that way. That hole 62" crap sounds kinda sketchy to me. So what does his tires come up to in that rule. Just because the tire say 12.50 doesnt mean its actually 12.5" wide and there is no height limit on the tire or is that factored in the 62" im confused:nail:

his tires are 12.5x4=50 the rule only goes by tire width that says on the tire.

No tire height limit and i agree even thought it says 12.5 wide i doesnt mean it is. A 33/12.5/16 sts is 12.2inch wide and 10.5 tread width for example but it doesnt go by the actual 12.2 it goes by what it says on the tire.
Basically making it impossible to run duals unless you use a really skinny tire. You can run what ever as long as tire width doesnt add up over 62. Or they also thought about making it 265 max tire size on duals. I found some 265 that are 32inch tall but then you dont have as wide tire its only 10.5 tire width no sure on tread width.

It's a tough call.

On the one hand, too many rules just makes everything more complicated. If you're going to keep the rule I would really push for actual treadwidth, not what's on the tire, because as you say there is a lot of variation. In some tires, there can be an inch or more difference in treadwidth for the same stamped width.

On the other hand, it seems like the "duallying up" is becoming more common, and adding two more tires, I don't see where that's advancing the sport any, except driving the cost up.

Personally I think the tires should always be within the fenderwell or flare. Obviously won't work for the mod class though.

Single rears for everyone seems like the right direction, at least for street trucks and lower. SS and Mod, do whatcha want.

How many gas classes are allowed to run duals?

My opinion is the only place for duals is in the "stock" class and they must be the size as what is written in the door jam as an option.

Shoot most gas classes have a tire height and with rule. Some point diesel gotta start limiting things somewhere. Maybe take a little lesson from the gas pullers who have been doing this for alot more years than any diesel class has ever been around.

Look at some clubs are finally starting to limit the wheelbase to 158 inches. At some point you have to step on some people toes to keep the class, sorry dually guy you can run 4 single tires or you can't pull. Simple enough. Who ever was the first Tech official that allowed a regular bed truck to run duals should be kicked in the crotch for being an idiot. Pulling trucks have 4 tires. If you want to run more then go pull a Semi.

If you want the rule changed, show up with duals on ALL 4 corners! or with 6 in the back and watch what happens!

 X2!!!

i think the tire rule is a good one, our local PS gassers are allowed 33x12.5 DOT max on 4 tires..... i do like that we have an OPEN class so if yu wanted to come out with a little extra of something you could... BTW I am not a puller only a watcher for now...

But if you go by whats on the door then so should a srw. The class will prolly be 2.5, 2.8, and unlimted single/3.2 twins. A dually tire rule in 2.5 and 2.8 and no rule in the big class. This rule was put into affect this year because the year before(2008) this duramax got beat at most of the pulls by a ve pump cummins in a ford extended cab dually that ran 285mts. I was just goin to use my truck to make a point because there are a few people that have pulled with these guys before and he lost so he made a rule change. They were goin to change the stock appearing class to 2.6 but he found out i had bought a 2.6 turbo already and before the rules were final they changed to 2.5 to try and push me up. Now i have to get a 2.5 cover made because im not pulling my dd against a duramax that has a engine that could be one of the most powerful duramax engines out there. Their rules have alot of grey area and we plan to use it to the fullest We are building a truck for each class to make a point i suggested just adopting the nadm rules but that was a no go.

All the tracks around me are like the ones in the video y reasoning for goin duals. I was running 285 procomp extreme mts 18psi front and 38 rear. Hx35, 125s, hrvp, jim jessup tune. I run 4HI 2nd gear 4.10s and run 22mph wheel speed and 20mph ground speed. Does anyone have any tire suggestions for tracks like this. My truck hooks very well with mts and the trucks with ats had problems most of the year. I now run a s366.

Thanks everyone for your opinons its very much appreciated.
