Pro Street Rules

Ken- I was reffering more to spiro and jeff. neither of them change tunes. Even if they do have to spend a bit of time setting up to pull so what? Still driven daily. The Mad Max gets about a 1000km a week i think. :rockwoot:

Hey Ken
After our chat today I got a hold of the Past president of COTPA and chatted about these rules we were discussing this morning, Guess what He had the same rules copied out already! If we can get him on board I am sure we can see the Pres on this as well, GLTTPA maybe another battle, but thats just normal for them.
Bottom Line, we may just have a chance of getting this thing done with a 2.8 and really close on the Restricted weight out front. Lets not give up hope yet.

Thanks

Heath

Okay, Heath/Ken with all this talk and and Ken stating that none of the current trucks or 98% of them anyway are even street legal for the road are you going to push to drop the licenced and insured from the rules for Pro-street as how the 5500 circut stock truck are? (Kind of an oxy morron to have trucks that can't legaly from an enviromental point of view driven on the street and call the class "Pro-street diesel" yet state in the rules they must be licenced and insured) Maybe its time for a name change too to maybe just 2.8" diesel!

If what you both have said is true you may as well try to have 2 all out trailer queen classes and open Pro-Mod right up!!!:cheer: Give me the go ahead for that and I will be on the phone ordering tubing before you can finish the sentance!!!!

LMFAO , Ken i drive my street truck every day to work and its making 600+ hp, my drive is 1 1/2 hour, ONE WAY and i dont get hassled by the cops or the MTO, but go ahead and open up the pro street class, so we can pull with trucks that dont have to be licenced, maybe i will finish building my truck with a built 2.6 charger motor to run with u guys

P.S i need to know the dates for the meetings ASAP so i can book off work

Thanks jupton, someone at least knows I am in this class LOL. As a puller who just came into this game this year I can understand now why this class has almost died a few times. I havent seen so much *****ing and whining since pre-school. This class finally gets going and then it falls apart. This is just the way I see it as I am ready to just go back to pulling local next year.

1) My truck is daily drivin every day with over 1000km a week being put on it. In the end I was not changin anything to pull, I also know for a fact spiro does not change his tune and has no ability too.

2)There were 4 trucks at Millbrook, me being one of them and I was there on my own account no one told me about it.

3) A workstock class is needed if the pro street is going to progress to 1000hp 2.8 monsters that never see street there entire life's. You will never get new, young competitors becuase they cant afford it. Being 22 and poor I know this. I dont even want to pull pro-street next year for the same fact... I cant afford it. I have been competitive with long hours of setting up the truck and research of what works and what doesnt.

4) Ken you say that you can build a truck on a budget and still be competitive. Yes you did build a good working truck but competitive? unless they changed the full pull mark to 250 feet I think you still have some work to do.

5) From what I remember Heath was at alot of pulls helping out when others werent there, and from a non-member of the class I think thats pretty damn nice of him, and I thank you heath you have been very helpful with your knowledge.

6) As a member of the class I vote 2.6, no water, hang weights behind the bumper, leave the hitch alone, if your truck cant compete with these rules go back to the drawing board and make it compete. This will create creativity instead of throwing money at something to solve a problem.

7) Pro-"STREET" STREET STREET STREET STREET STREET!!!!!! I cant stress this enough

j-man345- Good to hear from someone in the class that just got into it for the first time so we can hear your thoughts. I know how hard it is to get into a class at your age. When I was 21 I was building a truck for Super-Stock. Almost got it done and then I saw the light (5.9 Cummins Diesel) and the rest was history for me I guess.

Everything you said is what my self and many others are pushing for including others that pulled in the Pro-street class this year that have yet to be mentioned here yet. Its hard for that young guy to go and sink 10 or 20K into his truck in order to just stay competative in the class let alone have a loan for a 20-30K + 4 to 6 year old truck!

In all honesty, of all people I thought Ken would have been the first to try to keep the class at a lower HP level because he has been in this from what I know of quite a few years (most of us in our early 30's where just getting our licence when he was pulling) He also I believe was Presidend or Vice anyway of greatlakes (don't quote me on any of that). I really thought that he would realize that you can't jump from a Local class to a 800+ HP class that has the average price of a truck at a minium of 40K+ and have have nothing in the middle. He should also realize this seeing he has been in both classes that the Pro-street class trucks are currently making more power and worth more than the Super-Stocks.

And with that Ken I ask you this...you know alot of the gasser guys (as do I)...How many of the Super-Stock guys where previously in the Circuit-Stock class and got "hooked" in the local class??? Im going out a limb here but I am going to say 90% or more as 10 years ago when I was building my Super-Stock and you where in the class there where only 8-10 trucks in the class on most weekends and now there is double...that class grew because guys where working there way up which is impossible if the class is to hard to get into right off the bat!

I also think Heath and I would like to see the same things eventually for Pro-Mod and I honestly hope that when its a competative class again, he actually wants to pull for points and not just demo...makes alot of people wonder if the truck is legal for the class in the first place!!! (Not I, but others that may have liked to wine and cry in the past!)

Hey Guys

Prostreet Meeting Oct 31 1:00pm Ken Curries Shop (just east of Peterboro) Bring Everybody

Thanks

Heath

Heath- And when and where do you want to have a Pro-Mod Meeting?

Glad to here we have a meeting scheduled for Pro Street. I learned alot this year running in this class for the first time. I do drive my truck to work everyday and will probably have put on 30k by the end of the year. So I think it is a daily driver and it is equipped with every piece of emmission equipment it came from the factory with including a muffler.
I know alot of the guys in the class already are running big chargers so I don"t think it would be fair to lower the size limit now to 2.6 without costing guys a new turbo. I would like to see weights allowed behind the front bumper as well. As for the hitch height at 24" I'd leave it there. Hopefully we can attract new pullers to our class. I think guys have to realize that having the biggest turbo or most HP doesn't always make the best puller. Maybe some of the local pullers will join our class and make it stronger for the future.
Thanks to Ken and Heath for all their help with the class this season and especially to the great bunch of guys in this class who made it out to all the pulls.

Spiro

I am really impressed with the turn out of this class this year! Spiro nice to meet you, as well as all of the other guys in prostreet! Can someone email directions to Ken's shop for the meeting?

Hi Guys

Hope Ken Can give you Directions, Don't really want to post them here, What do you think Seeker?

ProMod Meeting? Randy and I were thinking we should have it soon, First of Nov most likely ( Would be nice to have it on the 31 st to but not sure if we can do that) But after the Prostreet meeting.

Thanks

Let the games begin. Whatever you guys decide will be fine with me because making the meeting will be a bit of a struggle with the farm this time of year. I'm in for hanging weights and a 2.8 limit on chargers. I'm new to pulling and the only reason I kept coming out was because of the great group of guys I pulled against. Remember guys just because you throw money at your truck doesn't mean you'll win. If things go half as well next year I'll be happy. I wonder if Tony will sell me his Dirty Hooker. LOL

Guys - sorry I havnt been here lately, busy busy - I will phone or email or fax directions to anyone who wishes to come to the meeting
Or better yet - you phone me so I dont miss anyone 705 652 1175
I will post on the Central site and the GL site as well
Lookin forward to seein you all soon

Heath - your more than welcome to have your Promod meeting at my place at the same time if you wish??

Heath - already ran proposed rules by the GL pres, Steve Whitelaw - and weights behind the bumper, and 2.8 with a 24" hitch was no issue

could we try and have the meeting after the pro-street, i would really like to be there for it, i am booking off work for this meeting, and thats going to be the only day i have off from now until x-mas time, let me know what you figure out.

thanks,

Hey J-man
Considering that after we blew up our rotary race pump at the second pull, and we finished the year runnin on a stock VE rotary IP pump and were only makin about 300 hp this year compared to the 500hp guys we did just fine, and we did finish third in points in GL

Next year with the new P-pump things will be more than a little bit different performance wise I be thinking

We can diss all day long on what a street truck is, but at the end of the day, if you are spewin black clouds every time you step on the throttle of a mechanical pump truck - it isnt a street truck by any definition. And we did drive to all but three of the pulls this year - it just isnt fun to do so, never mind if you break it.

As to cost well who can afford to buy a $20,000+ truck and sink another 10k or so in it. I know I cant, so it isnt just the young lads who cant afford competitive trucks in a big "street" class.

To answer Ryans question most of us back when, like you guys , started in local, but we did not try to make a street truck into a Super Stock when it came time to move up - most if not all of us bought a piece of junk and built a purpose built pull truck - much easier and MUCH cheaper.

And to be fair - the Pro Street class as it exists today will have to become the same thing - purpose built trucks, not converted street trucks, if we are to keep the costs down AND progress

20k+10k for a truck that can be used as a daily driver/ work truck/drag truck/pull truck and still gets 24mpg and a 1000km put on it a week is pretty reasonable I think. This is a more affordable option I think espectially when you factor in a second truck on your insurance when ur only 22, we all know the insurance companies love us young males ages 16-25.

Did we come up with some new rules? I really wanted to go but had to work and it was Halloween to boot.

You missed a good one!!!!!! lots of voice raising, arguing and everything else!:stab:

Rules...yeah, here is a recap up untill I left at 3:15

-Charger limit will be a 2.8" with bushings allowed ( had a heated discussion on 2.6" chargers and running bushings) and most seem to think that what they lacked in the size of their unit they would make up in there turbo...from what I hear most women even agree that bigger isn't always better! And from a guys point of view, I doubt some new guy will enter the show once he finds out everyone else is way bigger than he is!!!!! Different prespective on things but I am sure you get the idea! nothing like scaring the crap out of anyone even thinking of running in the entry level diesel class up here!

-Hanging weight will be allowed behind the front bumper

-Aftermarket bumpers are not allowed (seriously, what the F&ck is the difference if you already are allowing hanging weight infront of the box of the truck.)

-Anyone ever wanting to pull with a 6.4L Ford is $hit out of luck because they are not allowing any trucks into the class that even came with Twins from the Factory (I am sure something could have been figured out on this that would work!)

Here is the biggest rule that came up and I am putting this into my own text

-We, the Pro-street class of Ontario, Canada are now trying our hardest to not allow any new commers into our class as we feel that insane turbo charger limits and all the other BS rules that where put forth in our fall 2009anual meeting, will scare the crap out of anyone new to the sport even thinking of pulling with us, with the hope that in the next 5 years it will be the same old 8 or 9 guys pulling at each event and putting on the same old show.... :nail:::badidea::doh::nail:

As you can tell, I am a little bitter over the whole thing and I was only there to support the class with the hopes that we can have it grow and get even more new blood into it...personally don't see that happening or as much as it could have been. Some in the class I believe must be on cloud nine they think next year is going to be even better than this year!

After reading this thread I have to side with you. I've never heard of a 2.8 class not being able to run weight out front. That hitch height is 2" below the norn as well. Its going to be hard for a new guy to get into this class unless he wants to dump a ton of cash. Why didnt they want a 2.6 class? Heck we've got 900hp 2.6 trucks around here that will spank some 2.8 trucks so I hope its not because they think a 2.6 cant put on a show. Hope you can change their minds and open their eyes on some issues! Good luck!

Not to offend anyone, but that's the mostrediculous rule set I've ever heard. Sorry for you guys.
