This is an amazing build!
Thanks!! It's been quite the adventure.
Don't do it without a gate, you'll break the turbo again!
Ha ha, we did it again and didn't break the turbo. Nananana LOL
I just have to share last weeks struggles. Since I'm waiting on Craig to come out of recovery with, yet again, another broke leg I may as well use the time wisely. It wasn't another femur, thank you Lord. This time he simply took a bad step at work and rolled his ankle. He ended up breaking his fibula and dislocating his ankle joint. He'll be down for a couple months so he'll be able to come with us when we race. lol Honestly, his momma is at ease since Craig will be recovering on our couch. I get my boy back for a few months.:rockwoot:
Anyway, I was set on hitting the Bodatious race in Virginia last weekend. I had the pan, the timing cover, and the head off and all the gaskets to go back together. I had popped the pistons out of the bores just enough to let the top ring come out and I filed the nasty off the top. When I shoved the pistons back down in, the #6 piston sorta slid in on it's own after leaving the ring compressor. So, I pulled this piston all the way out and found out where the metal in the oil pan came from. The ring land between the oil ring and the first compression ring had broken and chewed itself up pretty good.
This is about 3:45PM Thursday evening and I'm scrambling trying to find a piston. After making all my frantic phone calls, I pulled other pistons jus to make sure and all the others seemed good at a quick glance. The Mountaineer Diesel boys were coming up empty handed and suggested calling Enterprise Engine. I wore their phone out and Tara finally answered just before 5:00PM. She had the piston and I talked her into having a fella stay late and fly cut it for me and the wife and I jumped in the car and headed for Ridenour Road, OH. We arrived back home at midnight and I hit the sack. I took Friday off to get ready and woke up early knowing I had a lot to get done.
The first on the list was to clean up the other pistons and get them re-installed. Upon clean-up, I found the #4 piston ring land was cracked and getting ready to break off. I called a very good friend and coaxed him into making the drive to Enterprise for me. I again wore out Enterprise Engines phone until Jeff answered. He said the machine shop was closed on Friday and he didn't think he'd be able to get it done. Just then, the owner, whom I don't know, walked into Enterprise and made the commitment to cut the piston.
I called Tim Champ, the very good friend mentioned earlier, and headed him toward the Buckeye State. He returned at 3:00PM and I commenced assembling the rest of the engine. We fired 'er off at midnight and warmed her up for a re-torque. The wife, Christian, Steve Butcher, and myself, prepped and loaded everything for the race and I ended up settling in at 3:00AM.
We left out at 5:30AM with tired eyes and the excitement of racing keeping me awake. We ended up driving a little more than the required 5 hrs and when mapquest told us we had arrived at our destination, we were dang near in NC. Yep, we were in Danville, VA. This is three ours from our actual destination. Steve Butcher calls and asked where we are at 'cause they are holding up the race until we arrive. I told him to go ahead and race and we'd see them some time that evening.
Needless to say, we arrived at Bodatious sometime around 3:00PM Saturday after all the racing was over. I ended up hitting the sack around 6:00PM and slept the better part of 12hrs. I woke up Sunday morning a brand new man. I don't know if it was divine intervention or just plain bad luck, but, I'd rather forget that Saturday ever happened.
Anyway, we ran 6 passes on Sunday. The track was 200' long and it had some pretty decent bite. Our quickest run was the first run at a 3.34. We were fighting big tranny temps after the first run. After the first three runs, we turned on the big nitrous kit with the newly installed .125 jet. The thing felt great and didn't blow up, but, we lost et on every pass. I'm guessing the converter is going south so I've already pulled it out and sent it to Allen Pope.
I'll try to get some videos up later this week. I met a fellow Compd person at the event and didn't realize it until he PM'd me a couple days ago. Nice to meet ya Kleann.
We are hoping to hit the club race in Parson's, WV on the 27th.
