Rebirth of Monster Mudder

I bought a new toy and tried it out sunday while I was testing the truck.

Picked up a Go Pro Hero for video in the cab of the truck while racing. The video is really clear and can't wait to see what an actual run will look like from in the cab.

The truck is pretty much ready to run and is already loaded on the trailer for next weekend. I do have to pull the wastegate off and put a new fire ring in as it's not sealing good, that should hopefully be here in the next couple of days, I also have a couple of small dripping leaks on my 2" hose side that I've ordered some heavy duty clamps to help seal up. That 2" hose is so stiff, that the regular worm gear clamps can't get it sealed off before they brake. I'm going to heat them up with my heat gun and tighten the clamp, that should seal them good.

I'm ready to take it and play in the mud next weekend.

Tomorrow is the first race of the season. Heading to Caney Valley Speedway in Caney, Ks for a 12 o'clock race start. The truck is loaded and ready to go. Charged the batteries, fixed the leaking wastegate, put the stickers on it and fixed the water dripping from the 2" water line.

Can't wait to see how it performs....

Had the first mud race of the season this year. Didn't draw well for my run's, I went 4th in class 2 out of 9 trucks and was the first truck to make it all the way through in my class. Of course, that made a trail for the rest of the trucks in the class. I did get 3rd in class 2. There was a snafu with the normal video of the truck run for this class, but I did get an in cab video of the run.

In class 3, I think I got 5th or 6th, I know I wasn't in the top 4, again I ran real early in the class and the pit got faster as the trucks went.

Here is a video of my class 3 run:

The truck ran great in both runs, the pit was rough as hell, a couple of trucks rolled, quite a few broken trucks, but had a fun filled day.

Boost was around 40 to 45psi on both runs, I slammed it 1-2-3 right off the line with a 10psi launch, so both runs were the whole way in 3rd gear. I need to figure out how to get more speed in the pits. I either need to change gears or get more RPM's.

Hopefully my new injectors and delivery valves will be here before next weekend.

Truck looks at lot more balanced then last year. Body seems to "float" more over the suspension too.

What are you turning for rpm now? Are you running in high range?

Well after unloading it from the trailer today, I took it for a spin and found that the truck wasn't shifting into third. So I'm going to have to adjust the linkage this week and see what's up with it.

The truck currently has a 4k gsk in it.

Not having 3rd would make a big difference. If you still need more wheel speed, I would have to say re-gear as the extra 1000rpm from a 5k, you are already moving out of the power at that point, so it won't add much.

Yeah, I was surprised that it wasn't going into third. I'll take a look at it friday when I get back home from work, after I finish demudding the underbelly of the truck.

I washed alot off of it this morning, and ended up wearing it all over me. I'm sure the car wash loves me when I visit there. I'm picking up a power washer this week as the car wash nozzle fans the spray pattern too wide, takes forever to get mud off the truck.

Regearing is what I'm contemplating, but now that I know I wasn't getting into third, I'm going to get that fixed and see where I'm at then.

i used to run a sprinkler under my truck through the night.. that and i used to mix diesel and used oil and spray that all under my truck with a hudson sprayer before the bogs..
as far as tires speed wait until you get the speed of 3rd combined with more fuel from the dv's and injectors you will be moving much faster.. also if it were me i would be leaving at 20psi.. i used to run 3rd high with my 5 sp.. i never got beat but instant tire speed helped me constantly beat up on gassers.. at the point you might want more tire, im not sure of the class but i would also run a 37x13 bogger.. again im sure your class has a cut tire and size rule.. looks good.. keep the vids coming..

I use a sprinkler too, but I needed to mow first before I turned it on. I also use a mixture of diesel and ATF on the body and undercarriage. I'm hoping the injectors and dvs get here this week so I can get them installed and test the truck out before Sunday. I'm already running 37x13 boggers at 10psi, that's the max size for the classes I run.

I run my jeep in a class similar to that. Mine has the same tires but its more trail rig then mud bogger. It does good for what it is I have a vortec 5.3 4L60 and dana 300 with j20 axles. I'm really debating on doing what you did moving the radiator and batteries back to help with weight. I love the diesel though and I'm sure a lot of the guys running the old chevys and fords think a cummins can't bog but your truck looks better and better every run

Yeah, it's going into 3rd now, I had to adjust the shifter linkage an 1/8 of an inch so it would click into 3rd. Also fixed my wastegate issue of it opening too soon.

I heard alot about the cummins couldn't do bogging because it's too heavy or it doesn't spin high enough, etc. I get alot of cheers in the stands when I run it, and quite a few people checking out the truck when it's in the pits.

Still don't have the injectors and dvs, cant wait till they get in.

The truck is washed and ready for tomorrow, just need to load it on the trailer. The gopro, seems to be toast, went to charge it yesterday and it won't even turn on. So no in can video till I can take it back this week and get another one.

I've read this whole thread but can't remember the logic behind the th400/205 set up was it length or what. Id almost wonder if a lockup converter would help like in sledpulling or would it bog the motor down in a deep hole.

Found out from my brother today, that he talked to his friend and our ups driver, that he had a listing for me yesterday, but the package wasn't on the truck. So looks like I'll get my injectors Monday due to ups's screw up.

Truck is all loaded up and ready for tomorrow, I do need to stick the battery charger on and check the fluids before we leave.

To answer your question on why I went with the th400, cost was the biggest factor. I had a full race ready Trans and converter built for 3200.00. I would have spent more than that on just parts for the 47re. And wouldn't have a Trans brake or a reverse manual valve body.

Oh ok I figured it was that. I build chrysler trannies and with the right parts can get them to hold up to a lot. The one in my 03 has been in there since 07 untouched and I have less then 3k in it but I built it myself. I always wondered how a TH400 would hold up behind a cummins
