did you flush the cooler lines and make sure they are all flowing good? also i had the same short of problem and found that the drum on the end of the input shaft had a hair line crack all the way across it, this caused me to pull the tranny 4 or 5 times and had to replace 5 clutches and steels every time until my buddy found the crack, everyone kept blaming the vb which i knew was fine
check your input shaft and seals, drums, and case for any cracks, you can put them together outside the tranny and use a blower nozzle to check, also when you put it all back together but before the vb goes back in you can check and make sure the bands and clutches are all work right by using the blower nozzle on the holes at the front and back of the case, on the edges of where the vb goes
when i had that crack the tranny would run great for the first few miles, then wouldnt get out of its own way, i still had the right line pressures and couldnt tell anything was wrong because the crack was after the gauge port
