I'll take a few pics and post them after lunch.

Sirdavidliesalot runs his motor so lean that it hasent ran for many years now and will never run again.
did it break the skirts off of 2 & 7 or does ford actually design em like that?
If you run a diesel lean on the bottle you will see some plasma torch EGT's......like 2K!
Here one example is:doh:[/IMG]

You are actually asking two different questions:
1. Can you run a diesel engine lean and hurt it?
2. Can you run it lean?
In response to question #1, not on #2 only. Add nitrous or alcohol to the mix, and all bets are off. The reason that nitrous can hurt parts by running lean, is that you have unused oxygen, AND lots of heat. Take either of those away, and the problem goes away.
Question #2. If your definition of running lean is more air available then required for a stoic mixture, then yes. It is possible to have diesel fuel burn at a AF ratio leaner then stoic. Will it hurt parts? No. Will it increase NOx emissions? Yes. One of the reasons for variable turbos (besides spoolup), is to actually reduce the air going into the engine under certain conditions (light load, high rpm, for example), to reduce NOx emissions.
