Took my truck for a ride today & got to test this Special. At 1400rpm, The gauge starts moving & about 1600 it takes off fast. I hit 62psi on a hard run & highest egts I saw was 1240*, but I wasn't in it very long. I was actually very surprised how well this turbo performs, but I do have one complaint. This thing barks every time I get out of the fuel. I tried lifting lightly & that did not help at all.

Yes........the damn barking pisses me off!!

I have never let mine spin 62# but even at 52 or 45 it barks.......not all the time though! I have just learned to let out real soft like when running it hard!

My HTT Quick Diesel, same size size are your BD, was the same way on my 97 with the barking. Nature of the beast I guess.

BTW, don't feel bad, my B1(62/65/12) would bark when my 95 locked the converter in Overdrive.

Really? I thought it was just this one? Guess its normal, but it can't be good on the turbo.

I was told it is the norm for a charger of this size. It's built to take it within reason. 62 psi is a lil on the highside for this setup IMO. Mine was gated at 48 psi from HTT. I know you can push em further, but I think they're out of the map at around 51 psi, could be wrong tho.

my stock one barks all the time when i hit it and let out, Had hauled about 2.5 ton in the bed sat the truck down a bit to and everytime i let out even driven slow it was doing that wonder if the waste gate is leaking

I have a question for you guys. I traded my 62/71 for this 64/71, but my truck has a 3rd gen exhaust housing for my 3rd gen brake. The other guy had a 2nd gen exhaust housing, so we kept our own housings & swapped compressors. When he went to install his 62/71, it wouldn't fit in his exhaust housing. He had to machine the hole bigger to fit, not much though. That tells me that my exhaust housing has excess room around the wheel. I called HTT & II, both said that it shouldn't be a problem. You guys think its possible that this is causing excess barking?

x3. If both turbos were a 71 wheel then you should be able to swap housings with no issues.

are you sure you didnt end up with a 65 wheel?

x2 on the question of 65mm...

Its a BD Super B Special 64/71 for sure. My housing is from HTT & they told me that they machine their housings to fit. HTT also told me that it depends on which manufacturer made the wheel, BD may use a different manufacturer.

HTT also told me that it depends...

right...

htt machines their housings in bulk

if you send them a 65 and ask them to put a 71 turbine on it and machine your stainless housing they wont do it

nope, you need to "buy one of our already machined housings - you cant afford the set up time for doing just one"

thats what they told me last month

Then it must have been a "special" super B special. LOL No it was a 71 wheel not a 65. The 62 barely touched when it was put together, I mean barely, It would hardly turn in the housing.
