Truckers, lets see your rigs!

I haven't been on any of your motors yet, but I hear they're REALLY nice! Air ride seats, hot plates and coffee pots. I could do without the hot plate but air ride and coffee would be awesome!!!! Hell, Norfolk Southern didn't even have toilets on theirs until a couple years back. We do have some pretty ragged out stuff, but I hear we've got a bunch of new ones on order.

We don't have air ride or hot plates or microwaves but the cn and cp do. We just have decent chairs and stuff seems to stay cleaner than csx/Ns. Also I like our control a lot better

I work for NS and im glad to see the same complaints seem to run from company to company! Management, remotes, dispatchers, moves, and power.

Did I mention management lol.

Really gripes my ass they hire them straight out of the class room from college or right out of the military (don't get me wrong on this, I'm all for hiring military guys) and they have absolutely how to do my job but yet they will tell me I'm doing it wrong. What happened where they hired guys to work the craft and then would promote from the ground up? :soap:

Anybody have anything good to say about the pre emission ISX Cummins motors. I am in the market and this looks like a pretty clean W900.

Since it's been overhauled I would think your OK. Early ones didn't have drilled rods and with cummins stupid low oil presure some were rod slingers. Relying on oil splash to lube the wrist pin is fine if you actually have pressure like a Cat. Done a few and the kits come with monotherms and you replace the solid rods with drilled. Pretty strong runners.

John, what's available for tuning for the CM570 engines, seems like with the right program and tweaking the timing of the injector cam a little bit one could be made to run pretty efficiently. To me it seems that a pre egr isx is relatively simple besides the injection pump.

Can the engine serial number be ran like a Cat can to see what parts are in the engine after overhaul?

Depends on where the repair took place and how it was documented. But on overhauls rods don't typically get replaced. Try finding the ESN and I will look

I'm sure it depends on who did the work. The serial number plate should be stamped with 2 letters showing it was rebuilt with single piece Pistons. I'll have to look.

You can add fuel and timing until the crank is in the dirt. Just remember, there's a reason you never see a high HP ISX at a dyno day. Block has 1/2 the meat a Cat does and the fuel system is weird with the timing and metering valves, injectors are $$$. DOHC is idiotic too but. A CM570 is the same as the 870/871 but without the Emissions junk and a HX55 or HX60W

They're no different than a deleted 870/871, some guys get 5 and some guys get 7. All depends on the application and driver.

The blocks have no problem holding the power and the engines have no problem making it. Can easily do 1300 or more depending. Now cost on the other hand. Yea I wouldn't want to pay that bill

Uh huh, so where's all the ISX sled pullers and dyno queens? Seen plenty of 1k hp yellow and green oily iron, never red and the tuning and fuel is available.

No clue where they are in the dyno and sled world. I just know where they have been in the R&D world. When testing say a 750 hp engine in R&D, it will get ran at 1000-1100 for 100hr at full load to simulate 1 million miles. I am simply stating the Isx can make the power, if people in the industry can't duplicate it, that's a lack of knowledge issue

750 is easy for a 15L. Cat has 705hp stock flash files for the marine C12 and the only parts difference is monotherm pistons. It's the 850+ in a road truck that they won't live. All I'm saying is if they could do it, they would be doing it, cost isn't an issue. This wasn't exactly cheap.
