Truckers, lets see your rigs!

Pressure test your CAC, if that's ok I wouldn't rule out a broken exhaust sleeve took some blades off turbine wheel(s).

You would be surprised how many trucks are running around with leaking charge air coolers.

It will have to wait until this summer. I don't know anything about the previous work done on it. Has 472xxx miles on it. I can tell its had a head put on it at some point. I do remember when we were looking at trucks, a lot of them had already had turbos put on them in this mileage range. No smoke to speak of, and it really starts spooling pretty low. Just low power and low mileage. Buddy had one and it was exactly the same. Said C13 in his other truck would out run it. But he finally tuned his and said it got better. Guess it needs to go into the shop after I finish hauling out grain.

Change is in the air...

Anyone have any experience of those TrailerTails from ATDynamics ? They now allow 50cm extra length for aerodevices in European Union. Was planning to buy my own trailer and maybe try those to save fuel.
http://www.marketwired.com/press-release/spain-leads-european-union-legalizing-longer-more-fuel-efficient-trailertail-devices-1950241.htm

Spanish trucks can now use 75 cm tails, they say 3% improvement, Scania tested earlier 30 cm tails, they saw 2% improvement. So 50cm must be somewhere between. New Euro 6 engines from Scania and MB/Detroit get fuel figures around 24-25L/100 km, fuel is about 1€/litre at the moment. I read somewhere those trailer Tails are 2200$, about 2000€. If driving 120 -140K a year, it takes about 3 years to pay them, after that they make about 700€/year. Dont know if they are worth it ? Maybe if they were 1000€ I would buy them.

Well they won't fuel until there is boost so any leak will slow it down. Mine wouldn't build much over 40psi with a load and was slow and 1/2 of both turbine wheels were missing. Doesn't take long to pop the cartridges out and check. PM me if you need any, I have pallets of acert twins.

Too bad they aren't DOT stamped, that would be the first thing that some one would throw a fit about.

Yeah, I am really surprised I've never gotten stopped. I run down the highways around here, go as far north as Merrill Wis and south as far as Effingham Il/St Louis Mo area.
East and west Indiana and Iowa also, and that's at a top speed of 50mph.

It's not too bad of an eyesore on a spreader, on a semi just bobtailing somewhere it might be a little different.

Yeah you got that right. I pull a skid loader and trailer behind it, that gets me the most crap. They look at the truck and don't say much, the trailer though... another story.

yes, and I have to ask why?

Just curiosity man. I'm familiar with the 12.7 but didn't hear much about the 14 until EGR and DPF came along. Just thinking about how good the 12.7 does with fuel mileage, reliability, and decent ability to make good power numbers with aftermarket parts. Got me thinking about the 14.0L and if people had had similar results with them.

They're the same up until the DDEC 6. A deleted DDEC 5 does the same as the 12.7.

From putting singles on?

From other people putting singles on, he likes the twins.

Bingo! See the issue with the Acert IS NOT THE TURBOS! However guys owned earlier C15/3406E's and had great power and luck. Then they got an Acert and some issues. So they raise the hood and the ONLY difference they can physically see is the chargers so they insist on spending a pile of cash to remove them. Then they almost always realize that was a mistake. They paid money to get a narrower power band and lose performance.

The only good things about removing them is it makes a few repairs easier. It also keeps idiotic steering wheel holders from lugging the motor down to 1100rpm, because unlike a single the factory chargers will still make power there.

But since some guys insist removing the turbos will "gain them 2mpg" because they read it on the internet...... We have lots of parts available to guys that want usable 800hp to the ground.

Passionate topic :)
I want to see someone run a secondary radiator for the liquid intercooler.

Once the VVAs are removed and the programming changed the boost will drop and the precooler isn't needed, IATs can be controlled with the air to air by itself.

Some have dynoed engines back to back with the acert programming and then deacerted and have made comparable or more power with less boost.

Brought my new to me truck home today, on my birthday.

1986 Freightliner FLC 120, 3406B, RTO-14615, Rockwell 38,000 lb rears, 10,000 lb steer, 3.90 rear gear ratio.

Needs a little bit of TLC but I have 5 months before I'm putting it to work!
