84 Chevy Crew Cab 12v Conversion

Today I started messing around with the cross members for the tank. Need to get it basically mounted so I can figure out where to best put all the fittings for my tank.

Kinda what my mount situation will look like

You can see the steel plate i have at the back of the tank, that will be cut in half and welded to the top of the rear cross member. It will be where the tank pushes up on when the straps are tightened down. The front cross member is a piece of angle iron so the tank will push up against that.

I am also looking at ways to fill the tank. Right now I am looking at using the stock filler and mount it in under the drivers side bed rail kinda like so.

I then plan on making a box that looks like this for housing the stock filler.

Messed around with the tank some more today. got the front cross member tacked in and then started working on the tank straps.

Also rolled the frame out of the shop to clean the shop up, snapped some pictures so you can see the whole frame.

Now I just need to make sure I know what size I need for all my fittings and know how many I need. Then weld those in and weld the top on and I will pressure test it then.

Well i got some more stuff done on the truck today and managed to spend my whole last pay check on some more parts.

Ground down the ugly ass welds that I had on the outside of the tank.

I then moved on to make the rear sway bar work again.

I order new brake lines tonight as well and I needed to get the shocks mounted where I wanted them before I got the brake lines and started running them so I also got the shocks tacked up today.

Should be getting some parts in next week and be able to finish up the fuel tank and then I will probably be broke and have nothing to do for a while haha

Well today was kind of exciting, I had been waiting on a box to show up.

Its getting twins!

ive always wanted to try a 12V rear dump manifold like that, flipped, in a set of twins, it would make a cool setup.

Been looking at ways to mount the turbo and I think I have kinda came up with a plan. Before I really get into it I need to stick my cab and a front clip on the truck to make sure I have enough room for my idea. Pretty sure it will have to move forward a little bit tho.

Hoping to make a mount that comes off of the exhaust flange that ties into the motor and then a bracket going down from that to around where the motor mount bolts. Then 5" exhaust out the wheel well back to my 8" stack that I will be running.

Breaking out the popcorn. Ill need to save the pics when you get everything situated so i can copy when ever i get a 12v stuck in my dually. :pop:

I love square body GM trucks- and love a diesel with stick- keep rollin- nice work & updates= crossy

Well have not been able to mess with the truck that much as I have wanted, but for good reasons. All I got done today was the fitting for the fuel outlet on the tank. I put it on the drivers side and put it at the rear end of the sump.

Hopefully I can get some more time soon so I can get the two returns welded into the top of the tank and weld the top onto the tank and pressure test it.

All I can say is wow. Totally jealous of your set up and your fab skills. Just read through the whole thread. I am new to all this and am still trying to find a good cc and a cummins for my own project. Thanks for the write up and keep more coming.

Thanks man! This is my first big project so Im not far from where you are, just have to read a lot of stuff and figure out what you want and then do what you can with what you have.

Worked on the fuel tank some more today. Its getting really close.
