86 Fummins Build

Any emergency/parking brake plans? These trucks definitely need better brakes, I'm shooting for hydro boost one of these days.

What paint did you use on the frame? Looks great

Its a gloss black urethane with an enamel primer. Thanks!

Yeah Im thinking about doing hydroboost as well, disc brakes for the rear were the first priority. Im not a fan of drums. For the parking brake all I would have to do is switch to calipers from an eldorado, they have a spring loaded parking brake setup in the caliper using the hydraulic pressure. I just wanted to get it all set up and make sure it worked with the K20 caliper first since they are only 18 bucks and the el dorado caliper is 100.

Shiny parts for the brake system showed up today as well

That looks like a fun project!

Nice project!

I also went down to Jason's (Hotrodtractor) today and picked up the 86 and brought it to the shop

Yeh, put the Cummins in a while back, but it's time to off the school bus yellow now. I can't sneak up on anything!! I'll do some pics, but this here is about your killer work!!

Have a pattern for the brake parts? I hate my brakes and really need to do some upgrades.

The best thing I did on my 95 was put a cab and chassis dually rear axle under it because it had wider brake shoes. This truck has the best OE type brakes out of any OBS ford I've driven. i was really surprised. The next best one is my brother's 92 that we put a D80 in with the chevy wheel cylinders. It really stops nice with a load too.

Id have to get them from my buddy who owns the shop since they are on his computer. I dont know if he would want to give them out or not.

Yeah it will be nice to have some better brakes than OEM in the rear

Everything is turing out great on this truck. You do awesome work. keep the photos coming.

Thank you!

Its looking pretty good.

Thanks!

Unfortunately I havent had a lot of time to work on the truck lately, but I made a little more progress and am at a stand still now for the most part. Im waiting on my Destroked adapter plate, auto world engine mounts and Valair Clutch to arrive which should be here in a week or so.

All the steering and gearbox is on now so the front end is done. I just have to paint all brackets and hubs for the rear and reassemble. I got the tank in and BDP sump installed. Still need to install the brake lines. Then its time to put the drivetrain in.

I'm interested to see where the AW mounts position the engine in the OBS's. I'm not too pleased with the ones I got from them for the EX. IMO the engine is too far back and too dang high. Guess that's how it goes, I should have just made my own instead of getting in a hurry. LOL

This looks awesome great work, My first truck was an 1986 Ford F-150 too. I wish I kept it to do something similar. I cannot believe the time and dedication into this project. Good luck! Again looks awesome!

I'll be interested to see how these mount up too. I wanted destroked mouts cause they positioned the engine perfectly in my king ranch but when I called them for this truck they said call autoworld. The diesel conversion specialists mounts looked like cheap garbage. I guess I coulda made my own too, hopefully these work well LOL

Thanks I appreciate it!

I placed an order with destroked for the ex mounts, but they were back ordered and after 2 weeks I just called AW. That's weird that Destroked said to call AW. I wonder if they're going to stop production on the older stuff and just offer the newer stuff? Or they must be really busy.

Yeah they told me they didn't manufacture body mounts for an obs anymore and that I would have to call autoworld. I was surprised

Not a whole lot to post before I go home for the holidays, just got the rear disc conversion all finished, only thing left is the stainless braided brake lines for it.

!

having that plasma table there would have made it cake for you to make your own mounts, especially with how well your brake brackets turned out.
