1967 RS Duramax Camaro

Awesome work! Good choice on welding a solid piece of dom in the main hoop. Your cage looks awesome! I know those roll cages are really fun to spray. Not!

Not gonna lie. I have been MIG welding for a little while, never had a gas and good wire. Nobody to teach me anything about it, I have been flying solo for since I started. I have always used Flux Core wire in my Harbor Freight special... After seeing these 'trigger' welds and how they appear, I said Eff this Flux chit. Told the wife, "Woman! I'm going to go to the store and I am going to buy a bottle and some good wire, if that is okay with you." LOL Good thing she said okay. It is amazing how the correct equipment can improve your ability to lay a good weld. I can even lay a presentable uphill weld, with Flux, not a chance, I can't see the puddle with it.

So I want to thank you, sir, for your inspiration.

Also, still at midnight.

Thanks, and the cage has definitely been the most difficult thing I've painted so far. Good experience for the next one i guess LOL

I'm glad that I was able to help you with your welding. I will admit that I hate flux core as well. It was the first style of welding I ever tried, and extremely discouraged me, so I feel your pain. If there's anything I've learned from this build, it's that the right tool for the job makes all the difference in the world.

So on Friday after work I put the Camaro on the lift and proceeded to tear it down...

Bernie shortened my 2 remaining link bars for me. He did a nice job, no surprise there.

For the rest of the evening, I tore down the front subframe and sanded the subframe and axle and loaded the axle in the booth. The next morning, finished prepping out the subframe, link bars, wishbone and brackets, and loaded them into the booth.

After cleaning and etching them, sprayed them with white sealer.

After painting everything on Saturday, I moved onto the underside of the Camaro. Sanding, cleaning, masking, and seam sealing literally everything. Sunday morning I came back and welded 2 pieces of tubing in the 4 link brackets for a little added strength.

Then I undercoated the floor, except for the 4 link brackets.

My phone had a hard time focusing on the floor because of the lighting, so not many pictures of it.

I took the suggestions of Bernie to not undercoat the 4 link brackets because of tight tolerances for the heim joints, so I painted them gloss black.

While that was drying I took my parts out of the booth and got everything ready to reinstall.

Big thanks to Tony and Geoff for helping me get the subframe on and the rear axle bolted in.

Came to work this morning and got the tires mounted and had to adjust the link bars to get the axle centered again.

And also painted my steering shaft since it was bare metal.

That's pretty much it for now. More to come next weekend...

This is going to be a very valuable car when finished!! Wow!!

Amazed this is your first build of this kind. You're making it look like second nature!! Beyond impressive!!

WOW!!!! It is looking better and better all the time!!!

Thanks Chris, we shall see if its running and driving in May...

What size and brand rear tires?

They are Hoosier Pro Street Radials, 29x18.50x15.

:thankyou2: I've had some practice working on our customers vehicles. Granted none of them had any chassis work, but lots of paint work. You should see the Mustang that a good client of ours dropped off at the shop today for a complete paint job. Freaking unreal... Only 1 like it in the world, for real. We have some pretty special projects at our shop right now, feels like we're turning into a hot rod shop again LOL

Let's see it.

Let's see it.

I probably shouldn't post pictures of it, but since I already opened my big mouth...

From what I was told, it is a prototype car that was being built to become the foundation for a kit car, but the builder decided not to follow through with it, so he sold it. It's a 100% custom fiberglass body to mimic Eleanor from the newer Gone In 60 Seconds movie. Full tube chassis, big block ford (427ish?), aluminum interior, Tremec 5 speed, full independent suspension, etc. At least 600-700hp. Has gone 187mph, built for road racing. The current owner is going to register it and drive it on the street. He drove it from his house to our shop yesteday.:woohoo:

I understand that there are other fiberglass body mustangs out there, but this ones a little different.
