1971 IH Travelette DTA466 swap

Very nice work. You should be able to pull just about anything when you're finished.

Are the rocker panels and bottoms of the doors in decent shape? I like your axle gear selection. What ratio is the OD in the tranny? Do know of any aftermarket companies offering an engine brake to fit the 'ol girl?

Again, very nice work. Please keep us updated on the progress.

Thanks, that's the plan! yeah being from Arizona it's pretty much perfect. the doors were not terrible but they were separating a little bit so I found a full set of really nice ones. I think the OD is .69 but i'm not 100% sure on that, when I take the trans to be gone through i'm going to have them add the OD, I know this trans (its direct) and the OD ones are the same just a different 5th gear. I don't know of any engine brake, could probably make a exhaust brake fit, but with working trailer brakes, and 4 disc hydroboost I think i'll be alright....

I would recommend boxing the frame, full length can't hurt, especially with what that engine will be capable of, you will tweak the body you just fixed up real nice.

I don't think it's necessary. It's a 1/4" thick frame thats 7" tall. There's going to be a crossmember or mount that ties both rails together every 2 feet or so. I think it'd be uneccesary. If it has more twist than I'd like ill plate it.

Final Beef!

1/4" plate for a little extra strength:

Wanted to grab the whole crossmember to support the case:

Just a little extra on the plate that connects the case to the crossmember:

I was going to use some 3/8" conveyor belt material, but I think i'm going to re-engineer it and use the factory style 466 mounts. pretty much a rubber block up front and 2 hockey puck sized rubber isolators on the trans.

Best firewall/tunnel shaping i've seen in a long time. Would be nice to clean it up and keep it exposed.

Also... think your spring hangers are heavy duty enough? hahaha

Great job!

Thanks that firewall was a huge PITA! Well to get them where I wanted thy hung a little low, on the GMs the 3/4-1 ton got a lower brace. I just, uhh, improved upon it!
