33 mpg

something is either wrong or you drive with a very heavy foot, I dont think I could get 10 if I tried (it would be a black out the entire way)
do you have your tires aired up (60 psi)
are you running over size mudders?
how old is your VP?

and the autos actually have a better overdrive ratio

you might want to look into figuring out why your only getting 10 mpg, at over $100 a tank that could hurt in a hurry, just my 2 cents

here are pictures of the gear vendors at work. pictures were taken at 2K rpm with it engaged and with out in 5th gear

I never really hot rod it much but lately I have been driving real old man style, we will see if it helps much. Like the rpms never go over 2000 and rarely over 1600 or so. Tires are at 60psi. 315-70-16 FCII that are bald. The VP has around 60k on it.

I read one of your threads about mileage and you mentioned putting on propane. Did you ever put it on and if so how's it doing for you? Also, I'm curious what timing you run on your pump. Scott

no i never put it on. im running 16.5 timing going to bump it up to 18 or so after th enew head goes on

Nice MPGs! That's nuts. I think a set injectors are in my near future.

My average is 18.5mpg - 22mpg
(96 auto 4x4 3.55 ec lb w/ 392k on the clock, stock injectors, 265x70x17)

I let someone in my family borrow it and it got 23+mpg

One of your major factors could be your tires are too big.
I was running 285x75x16's on steel 96 wheels and getting 15-16 mpg
Switched to some brand new cummins wheels / tires (265x70x17) now I'm getting 18.5mpg at the lowest.
Usually in the 20's, with a best of 22.5/23 mpg.

I fill it up every time since my fuel gauge doesn't work.
I do my MPG every time I hit the station. (trip odometer divided by # of gallons used to fill the tank)

No fabricated numbers here. No stretching the truth. :rockwoot:

I'm getting 26 MPG to work and back. 30 miles each way at 60 mph cruise control.

You're at 2K RPM @ 60mph?? With my Dually on 235/85R16's, NV4500 and 3.55's I'm at 1750RPM at 62mph...and approx. 69mph at 2K RPM.

Chris

it also depends on pedal placement, i have between 1700 at 60 mpg and 2000 at 60 mph.

How? RPM at a certain speed should be constant, unless you have a converter that doesn't lock...and I'm assuming you don't since you said 5th gear!

this is true, and my rpm's look more like the picture with the gv on than with it off.

i know when i hit a hill at 80 im running at say 1700, i get halway up the hill im still at 80 but the rpm is 18-1900

nope, so your saying that when im coasting down a hill at 80, and the rpms is 1200 i should be doing 30 mph

I'm saying that I've never been around a hydraulically actuated gear vendors unit...but, with a clutch, RPM should be constant with MPH;)

Sounds like the GV "overruns" when it coasts, and has to "wind up" to climb hills.

my guage could also be off since the stock tires are 2 sizes down

Don't care, different sized tires would affect all the readings the same, not some at 1200RPM and some at 2200RPM;)

i dont know, im really digging th mileage tho. but ill tell you in a few weeks after i change my rea out with a dual
