500-550hp

so jamie why would you say a 64/71/14 instead of a 64/74/14? wont the egts be better controlled with the larger turbine?

I think the 74 wheel is a pretty big wheel in most situations unless you are running like 240s or 250s. I think a 71 would suit him just fine and it will move plenty of air and spool up will be better

I've heard that the 74 turbines are very slow to light. I don't have experience with the 74's, but I can say that this Special has really put a smile on my face.:evil One day when I have time, I'm gonna get a video from the drivers seat to show you guys how this Special spools. It is unreal how smooth this combo is.:rockwoot:

64/71/14 hands down an awsome charger.
and i dont have studs on mine and have not had one problem and the boost gauge hits 50 at least once a month.

Hey Jamie what kind of boost are you seeing just normal driving around town empty with your 5spd? My truck hardly makes any boost at all while just cruising around unless I get in the skinny pedal hard and stay there for about 10 seconds.

I'm hoping my 5spd swap will let me get a little more boost of this special, either that or I need 200 in place of my 150's.

To be honest, I haven't done much town driving at all. I've been riding with my brother to work, not driving my truck much lately. When I do drive it, I'm running the snot out of it or towing a trailer. When boosting it, I see 58psi....once saw a spike to 62psi. When towing, I run Smarty sw4 with ADR PL06 & have no trouble keeping egts in check.

Who's 64mm turbo are you running? We have almost identical fuel/air setups.

Hmmm I have my gated still at the stock 42-45lbs since I don't have studs yet. But just driving around I am nder 10psi almost always unless I'm going up a decent grade. Then it will go up to the mid 20's, the only time I can hit high 30's or break into the 40's is if I really stand on it for a good stretch with the edge on 5x5.

I'm not sure if it's a fueling issue or if my slush box is that far gone that it just wont hold normal boost while driving around.

Driving around I see my digital boost jumping around everywhere. If I come to a hill & slowly give it more fuel, my boost gauge kinda goes from 2-8-15-21. It builds boost fast even with a very light throttle. Its hard to explain without actually seeing it. I'm gonna get video of it soon for a few members who asked about it.

Its pretty easy to drive around with no boost. I personally think its the 71mm wheel.

I have to drive 80+ to see constant boost.

I wonder if the digital is accurate?

I have both and digi boost is always higher by probably 5psi+/-.

I like the mechanical sweep a lot better than the digital.

I had the gauges in the pillar for a while & they matched perfectly with the Pulse. Only one that read different was fuel pressure. I removed my gauges because they were so accurate.

Yeah my quad jumps around too.

This is what makes me think it isn't so accurate. It reads off volts vs actual psi.

Did your mechanical boost jump around? My mechanical boost doesn't.

Digital boost is never steady unless WOT. In my case.

The boost reading on my attitude monitor stays below 8psi while just driving around town. But it doesn't "jump" around at all, I was just curious what other guys were seeing in a normal drive.

Sounds like mine isn't too far off, but I'm sure the shot auto trans isn't helping things any.

My recon monitor for the ADR jumped around alot but the boost on the pulse doesnt jump too bad on mine. It is usually at least 5psi off my mech guage though.

i love my 66/74/14 even with the jammer 4's its a night and day difference between the jammer 58/68 non gated ball bearing turbo. i cant get this silver bullet above 1300 degrees and it boosts to 42. i am going to put some videos up soon to show the spool and black smoke control.

No, my mechanical was smooth. I mean that they both read out to same exact max boost readings.

All you need for 500-550 hp is a 62 turbo =P

As far as 71 vs 74, I'm pretty sure they clip the turbine on the 74 wheel which makes it less efficient so it probably flows about the same as the 71. Then again we'll probably never see a turbine map for either so wth? 71 turbine sounds great out the exhaust.

how are egts while towing with your set up ph4tty? do you feel the cam was worth the labor?

Nope.... at 70 you aren't turning enough RPM to make enough boost to keep things cool. It will move more air flat-footed, but it is not an Ideal charger for Towing.
