70 More Horsepower

You have to use your truck everyday from what I understand. It is worth it to run 12.00s with the extra possible parts breakage from the extra power? What are your EGTs at WOT?

The boost numbers seem in line with what most guys run. I ran the 18 housing on several 40's back in the day. Man, that was 8 years ago. LOL It was laggy compared to even the 16 gated version. Do you have a 16 laying around? The 40 is fine for low 12's, high 11's with a B2 and 7's.

Does the trans drag out the shifts?

Lavon,

Did you go to the track since the injector tweaks?

Max EGT's ever are 1400* daily driving no more than 1200*.

What's to break? My transfer case... My Dana 70 breaks with the power I have LOL.

I really do want to be able to run Quick Diesel... just a personal goal of mine.

I switched to 3.55's from 4.10's inbetween injector tweaks. I ran 12.43@104 with 4.10's and my 325/60/r18's (33") tires and then went back after the gears and injectors and ran 12.43@108 with my stock 265 tires(31")

I have a 16cm on the truck now...

The trans is tighter and shifts harder than every other local built trans truck, with the exception of Brandon of course. But Tim Barber set it up and it BANGS the gears.

Steve's truck is a freak, just runs great. I'm in the same boat as you Lavon, trying to hit 12.0s with a vp truck. I don't think there is a rhyme or reason. Best Tim B ever did was 12.4's on fuel with his old vp truck. Best I've done so far is 12.5's, that was with Tim's old 6's and a single.

What are your 1/8 mile times and mph?

I know I did 7.87@85.8 if fall of 06 with my 4.10's but not sure what they were this summer.

Its just frustrating when you feel like you have everything it takes but it just doesn't do it. My truck seems to run great but it seems like there is just a little something missing to get me the extra HP.

That why I started this thread because I'm taking every idea and evaluating the possibilities... if I can find 5-10HP here and there, then eventually I'll have what it takes. I have until May 8th to figure it out.

I can't remember if you did a leak down test or over all cylinder pressure test? If not, the excessive blow-by could indicate the rings are shot.

I never did a compression check... It would be interesting to see how it checks out... do you have a gauge we could use?

12 valve;)

Of course how long have I been trying to do the same thing??:hehe: :hehe:

Chris

Now if I did what you did and ran 14's I think I'd be looking for a 24V... LOL
Chris driving a VP truck... Now that would be funny!!! but hey, at least you could make it go 12's :) just given you hang...

With your 60' times I thought for sure you could get at or below 12.0. I'd still like to try those 7++ sticks and see if I can get at or below 12 on fuel with a single. My quickest is a 12.26 on fuel with the 66/71/14 on 7X.12 sticks. BTW, I am 500 lbs lighter than you @ 6620lbs race weight.

Best I have done is a 12.52 at 110 and that was with 35 inch tires I need to go a little smaller on tires say a 33.

Yeah, I know I could make power with one of those...the 12v's seem more finicky...I'll get there!

BTW, I have a compression gauge, but no 24v adapter;) Actually, let me look, I might actually have the adapter too!

What RPM does your trans shift at? 1-2, 2-3, and 3-4? Are you using on OD switch? What RPM are you running through the lights at? Are you locking up the converter as soon as it hits 2nd, or sometime after it goes into second? Single or triple disk converter?

You should have enough fuel for a 12.00. I don't have much experience with an HX40 in a twin set, but by your boost numbers and what you saw on your drive pressure gauge, I would think you have enough air. Does the smoke clean up after launch, and run smoke free down the track? You should see just a haze of brown (not black), smoke going down the track.

1-2,2-3 shift at 3000rpm 3-4 shifts at 3300 and hangs a little if I don't use my OD switch but I have been using my OD switch at the track for 2yrs and always shift around 3000rpm. I get a hard pull all the way through.
I have a DTT Super Single converter, and am hitting the lock up switch about half way through 2nd. Not sure about rpm going through the lights but with the stock tires if seems like its about wound out... 2800-3000?
Smoke is clean just a haze after launch... here is a link to my truck in action.

Let me know if you have one...

Are you running the 47RE valve body or the 48?

If you have it lockup as soon as it goes into 2nd, you will probably pick up a tenth. You will also probably shorten the life of the converter (as well as some other parts).

I don't know what your dyno curve looks like, but you are probably shifting a little high. Mine works out best about 2900rpm. As a rule of thumb, you want the shift to happen so that the rpm doesn't drop down below peak torque. If it does, you may not be able to keep the turbos spooled. If your peak torque is about 2200rpm, having it pull down to 2400rpm at the shift would be a good starting point. I really like racing with the Drag Comp. However even though the Drag version fuels to ~3200 rpm, it will start dropping off well before that. Get it into OD quicker too if you can.

Side benefit to running a lower RPM is that EGT's will be a little lower.

Your video looks like nice clean passes. It looks like you have your fueling and air setup very well. The smoke cleaned right up, and was just a brown haze like it should be on a VP44 truck.

its been said that a hot rod pump and mach 4's are similar fuel to SO pump and mach 6's. but anything after 600 is usually made by SO pumps. Not saying that Hot Rod's don't do it but many SO pumps have made 650HP.
Lavon

I know of a handful of guys that are over 600 with hrvps. Like below

For what it's worth, I made 658 with a hrvp..

Lavon

I say your need more fuel. However you get it, it just looks like your cleaning what you have up pretty clean to almost clear.
I will have to agree with smokem and say more fuel is in order.
