8.3L Cummins Transplant

First... before everything. The engine must run.

Truth!

So, back on track. Let's talk injectors for just a second or two. Originals were 300 bar. New ones are 260 bar. I could give a rats ass what they are set at, but how does the bar affect fueling? Lower pop pressure means they will open faster and allow more fuel quicker, correct? This would increase down low torque? I'm just trying to learn here. Does that mean the timing set on this pump that was set to the CPL 8185 need to be modified since the pop is lower? Again, just trying to understand what I'm doing and learn.

Worthless.

wyotechs a good one too. met any from baker in michigan? think they only take unoh rejects.

I didn't want to throw a name out and offend anybody but this has been my experience as well. Their grads will even tell you it is a joke sometimes.

the school is a joke. i do not say i went there unless provoked lol. i didn't take the diesel stuff though. zero interest.

Timing may advance some but how much I cannot say. I will say running VP injectors with a ppump on my 01 and then swapping in ppump pressure injectors I didn't notice any difference.

Back when I had the pop pressure raised on my 12v injectors to 300 bar, I was told 3 degrees difference from 260 bar.

Where did you set the timing, or where is it at for this engine?

Those injectors are for a 300hp combine engine...max RPM 2400.

I would bet, for your application, no problems.
Chris

little more idle smoke and easier cold starting would be the only things i could see. nothing i would worry about either.

I was asked for the CPL number by the guy who sent the pump to the pump shop so they could set it up. I'm assuming they have it set to CPL 8185 which as far as I know is everything about the motor. (CPL is Spanglish to me) I could be way off and need to set something myself and don't know it. That is why I'm asking. I couldn't time a law mower so this may get ugly. LOL

I figure when I get it running I'll just find someone who can tune on it and swap them a steak dinner to adjust everything I can't. LOL

The problem is, the CPL I gave them was the one that is on the motor that was setup for an irrigation pump rated at squat @ 2200 RPM. Pretty sure it will need tweaked from that. So it will be the baseline I guess and where it ends up....who knows. I damn sure know it is going to run more than 2200 RPM...or at least I hope it does. LOL

It's a different pump, and not the same rating as that AG pump. You will not need those RPM's to be even near 3000. I promise. That engine will do it's best work between 1600-2000.

Cool. I did manage to find me a new shifter while scouring facebook on the schidter just now. Makes me wish I had a manual in the Dodge. LOL

Made a little progress this weekend.

Sleeve installed. Piston installed. Deck cleaned and ready for head. Bottom end checked and torqued. Pickup and pan re-installed. Swapped flywheel housings for the SAE 2 that puts the starter back on the bottom.

Found two issues.

I need to space the flywheel housing out from the mounting plate on this engine stand because the flywheel sticks out past it about 1/2 and inch. I got this covered.

I found the starter in this SAE 1 AG flywheel housing has a smaller pilot than the one required for the #2 housing that came with this transmission. Chris is looking to see if he has one to swap with me. Anyone else go one laying around in case I need it? Starter I have has a 3.62" pilot. Pilot hole in the #2 housing has a 4.17" bore. Bolts up, but won't last long without the pilot being correct....same issue I had with the compressor.

The transmission that I have now (6 speed) is an Eaton 5106 A like I thought. The PTO should swap right over from a 5005 A correct? Anyone know for sure?

PTO should be the same. Really can't see EATON using that many PTO drive gears on the MD trannys.

I'm having my guys pull a couple starters off today so I can see if I have a good used one off one of these other engines. Don't think I have a new one.

Chris

Hell, I don't need new. We have a local guy that tests and rebuilds. I'll be sending you this one so if I can at least find a core that's a step up. A working one is a huge plus. :D

I got a starter for a sae 2 if Chris doesn't have one.. and find someone to by my compressor. Lol
