Question been looking at 8.3 for repower
Found dimension being
45" long
42" tall
31' wide
For reference
5.9
40" long
25" wide
38" tall
Duramax is
30" L
30"W
32"H
Really curious to at what point is it 45" long? On the 8.3 Back cylinder head to balancer or bell housing to balancer?

On my Fummins the 5.9 fits with plenty of clearance, to fit a 8.3 in I'd have to loose the mechanical fan and probably cut into the firewall.
Not sure why the 8.3 is 6" wider.

PM me an email. I have a PDF of an 8.3L fully dimensioned. I'll send it to you. :D I'd be willing to bet you will either have to stretch your fenders or use it as an arm rest.

According to PDF jory sent block is 33" long flywheel section is 5.3" pulley gear section at the front is is ~6"
Meaning back of the block forward is 39" as FW houssits under firewall

Now I'm curious, I've got my old 5,9 sitting in my nephews shop so it would be easy to measure, my F-800 doesn't have tilt front so measuring the 8.3 would be difficult.

They guy that bought the old Detroit just sent me a text. It's no Bueno. Scrap.

I've never figured out why anyone would make a engine block without a top deck to stabilize the cylinders.

Looks like that cylinder was getting a little thirsty!

I've never figured out why anyone would make a motor with that much weight and displacement only to have it put out 75 ft-lbs of torque.

Good thing you sold it as a boat anchor....

I told the guy it could be a head gasket OR a cracked block and that I had no idea which one it was. I have a clean conscience and was very up-front with him. Hopefully he gets at least $150 scrap out of it and breaks even.

Ain't that the truth. I've never understood the love with a 2-stroke diesel. They're just loud, you have to drive them like an maniac and they leak fluids everywhere.

He should. Even if he parts the motor out. I think all that 71 series stuff is the same.

Ask IH, that is about what a DT466 put out and guys think they're great.
