UPDATE: Drag Racing NHRDA World Finals
I took the Junker down to Ennis, TX for the NHRDA World Finals on Oct 1st. I was double classing the truck running in both the 11.90 index and the the 10.90 index classes. In the week prior, I spend a few hours on the dyno tuning in a 625 HP tune via AFC LIVE for the 11.90 class, and then dialing in a 770 HP tune for the 10.90 class which consisted of max travel from the pump, all 650 cc's at a conservative 24* timing. It picks up more power with more timing, but the 770 HP uncorrected at altitude was what I felt was needed to run deep staged 10.90's in Texas.
The Junker did ok in qualifying on the first run going 11.88 the first run in 11.90 qualifying and going
10.85 @ 129.8 MPH on the first run in 10.90 qualifying. I slowed it down a little on my next two qualifying runs to make sure I got a mid-pack seed in the bracket so I could face easier opponents in the early rounds of racing.
Here's a starting line picture of 10.85 qualifying pass running against Dan Madden in his Duramax powered Cat-amax.
During eliminations, I had several close races, this one resulted in an 11.23 with me lifting early to ensure I didn't break-out and run under the index. The Junker performed flawlessly and didn't require any fixes, repairs, or maintenance the entire event!!!!
I went a few rounds in the 11.90 index class before getting knocked out in the quarter finals. It's weird running back to back 11.90 and 10.90 passes, it feels like the truck broken or hurt dropping 150+ HP between runs.
I had a close double breakout loss in the 10.90 finals running against Chris Perales and his S467+nitrous P-pumped Cummins. It was a good close race for most of the track but in the end, I went 10.87 to his 10.89 and in that scenario, whoever breaks out less wins the round. I did slow down a bit by lifting the throttle with my 122 MPH trap speed, but I guess I didn't quite slow down enough. Still though, 2nd place in the Junker and 10 quarter mile passes without a single issue was FUN!!!
Here's the time slip from the final round, I was deep staging the truck so 60' times are sacrificed with that staging technique and exchanged for better reaction times. The index classes use a Pro Tree, so any advantage at the starting line reaction time is worth it.
The 104 MPH 1/8th mile trap speed shows quite a bit more horsepower than the 129 MPH trap speeds at the 1/4 mile on full bore runs. My mild timing, and turbo setup really loses power above 3000 RPM and it shows in the time slips.
All said and done, it calculates to roughly 800 HP at the rear wheels so I did pick up some power going down in altitude over the dyno sheets.
