Update:Racing!!!
The freshly machined block/deck surface did the trick and so far the new headgasket and orings have held up without a single problem.
Last weekend I drove up to the last NHRDA event of the season in Billings Montana for the Big Sky Truck Fest.
In the 10.90 index class, I pulled off a #1 qualifying position with a moderate 11.20 pass at 127ish MPH; the rest of the field was struggling to run the number both running quicker and slower than the index. I tried to qualify on my smaller 29.5" drag slicks which really weren't doing well on either end of the track, so I bolted on the bigger 32" drag slicks for eliminations.
Unfortunately I didn't get a chance to beat my personal best of 10.90 @ 126 MPH from a couple years back for fear of breaking out and going quicker than the 10.90 index time. It was fun to make it through the rounds and bring home the 1st place trophy in the 10.90 index class.
My best trap speed of the event (on the small slicks) was 128 MPH, there was a scale at the track so I found out my total race weight with driver is 5330 lbs. This calculates to
758 HP to the tires, not earth shattering by any means, but still a good result considering the RPM limited turbo setup and small slicks really fell off on the topend compared to the bigger 32" slicks I tried in the elimination rounds. The bigger slicks showed stronger split times and trap speeds at the 1/8th mile so I suspect the trend would continue and result in 130 MPH trap speed, but I don't have a slip from an all-out pass on the big tires so maybe next time...
I also entered the burnout contest to try my chances at the $500 purse. I wound it up to 4500 rpm in overdrive with a pair of old 35" tall BFG All Terrains which calculates to
195 MPH wheel speed in the burnout, but I didn't quite get enough audience noise to win the decibel meter determined winner. NHRDA still took a few good pictures of the burnout contest and races:
