95' Junker Drag Truck

...a Corvette isnt a 1/4 mile race vehicle. Id like to see you run a 1 mile drag with one...or try turning with one like they are meant to (road course) :). Not try to be a dick, just thinking out loud.

I dunno...bragging about beating up on cars that werent designed to drag race at all kinda annoys me, even if they are crazy fast. Like a trophy truck driver beating a Prius in an off-road race and bragging about it.

^Assuming were talking about a bone-stock off the street Corvette, street tires, manual transmission; NOT a purpose build drag racer Corvette.

If you worked a purpose build drag Vette then hats off man!.

Meeting the Challenge on the drag strip is the thread, good, bad, and ugly, not merely being a wanker from the sidelines, like you

Right cause a 3/4 ton diesel was meant for drag racing?:umno: the Corvette driver is running their vehicle same as blue is running his, both attempting to "drag race", therefore leveling the playing field. Doesn't matter if blues truck only sees the track, that vette owner may only drive his car to the track and back... you never know...

If the owner is running his vette down a 1/4 mile track would'nt it be a 1/4 mile race vehicle? I think its badass that he is beating up on vettes and Camaros with his budget beater.

You think a old beater 16 year old 200k farm truck is designed to drag racing? Beating a high powered sports car with a 7000lb pickup truck is impressive. Do u really think a vette wasn't designed to accelerate?

I LOVE that Blue's truck works Vettes and Camaros!! Lets get that out of the way first.

Blue's truck is bad ass, tons of power, slicks, suspension set to drag race (IIRC?), doing heavy boosted launches. Its pretty dial no?

A stock Corvette- street tires (traction issues at launch), manual trans (no crazy boosted launches), gearing for top end speed ( a vette wasnt designed to scream to 100ish and stop, they need the gearing to keep pulling- the funs after that) , etc.

No a diesel truck wasnt design to drag race, but they do it damn well dont they.

I didnt mean to start a giant dispute where everyone and there brother feels the need to chime in. I dont want to junk up this thread.

Im just saying.....humility is a virtue.

242K miles on the odometer actually.

And I have stripped it down a little weight wise, it scales between 5400 and 5500 with driver depending on fuel quantity.

To the Camaro's defense, his buddy was running a Whipple Super Charger in a 2011 SS and it was running 13.02 to 13.15's all night at about 109 MPH. We never lined up so I can't claim victory, but I did make six passes in the 12.7 to 12.5 range depending on 60' time and how many times I got off the throttle in the first 660' fighting wheel spin up till 80 MPH on a few passes.

Smoken Gun, everyone is entitled to their own opinion, and it sounds like you feel strongly about Corvettes.

I will say this, if a Corvette is not designed for drag racing, why do 90% of them flip me off when I smoke them at the track? If the owner of those vehicles knew that Corvette's are not designed for drag racing, why on earth would they care what beats them to the finish line?

As far as cornering, I 100% agree that 99% of the vehicles out there will corner better than my "welded-rear" drag truck with removed front swap bar and tight traction bars in the rear.

To help put into perspective what the altitude and heat of Las Vegas does to naturally aspirated vehicles, I watched several healthy 600cc bullet bikes run anywhere from low 13's to low 12's. I never lined up with a bike, but you have to admit that bullet bikes are built for one purpose: to go fast!

My truck is no where near dialed in. With it's current trap speed, it should be running 11.9's to 11.7's.

My truck and it's performance is nothing special. In fact, the only unique feature is that it's cheap.

There is nothing unique or special about a stock corvette, what makes it interesting to race is the 60-70K price tag vs 3-4K price tag on the Junker.

I like Corvettes, but im not a Corvette zealot. Ive driven a few. I really didnt mean that you were being a jerk by braggin about beating them, your werent bragging bad. Your pretty classy from what ive seen.

I was just making a general statement. The wrong time and place- thats my style:doh:.

Because they were immature assholes who were pissed you spanked them in what they thought was probably "a slow hunk of junk". Little did they know your junk MOVES!

I cant read minds so ill leave the second sentence alone. If I had a Corvette, I wouldnt take it to the drag strip (strip club yes). I would take it to a road course.

Damn, that was a low blow huhLOL. My fault.

I didnt mean any of this as a person attack and I think you got that. I wish the internet could convey "tone".

Imagine if you had the $56-66K (minus whats in the truck now) that the Corvette owners paid, that'd be one quick "Junker"!

I'm not going to lie blue I hope I can beat you to the 11'sLOL you need some real slicks and I think you would have your 11 sec pass

I was flippin through diesel power at borders the have a maroon beater in y the issue. Might be yours check it out. Its just a small photo at an event they covered

The July issue of Diesel Power comes out this week so if you haven't picked up a June 2011 issue yet and read the paragraph about the "Junker Drag Truck," on page 130 and burnout contest picture on page 132, you missed it!

Vette's are built to be an all around driver. Whether it be road course or drag strip. And they are geared very nicely to be very fast up to a 100mph and over. They pull just as nicely at 50mph as they do at a 160mph.

Awesome build man, I'm looking for a cheap 2wd now. I have a few sets of used M/T Slicks 33/10.5w/16, you can have a set if you think it will get you closer to your goal. I'm in NM so not too far away, just pay for shipping or find a way to get them and they are yours. Let me know, keep up the good work!
