95' Junker Drag Truck

I wish the Junker would be making an appearance at famoso next weekend.

Garrett

I'm 95% sure, your wish will come true.

My wish is that the Junker would magically finish re-assembly of the fender and compound turbo setup while I'm at work so I can get some shake-down passes completed this weekend at Saturday's test n tune.

About time, it sucks I can't make it out to Bakersfield.... That race is going to be awesome.....

Must feel good to have it back together finally!!

Maybe i missed it but do you have a roll bar/cage or plans for one?

Awesome Will :clap::ft:

How bad is it to pull fender? I want to do it when I install my over under twins setup. Probably going with a 475 or 480 not sure yet.

Glad to see it back together. Some good Mikalor clamps and some boost braces would be well worth the investment imho.

I'm looking to see what your first day at the track nets you. Are you going to run slicks, or work out some bugs on street tires first?

It's pretty easy, remove the junk sitting on it, break a couple spot welds, there are some bolts, and then pull. Be careful of hitting it on your door when removing because I definitely chipped some paint there the first time I did it.
It takes less than 45min probably if you know what you're doing.
And it's the best way to get at a 53 block crack and try and repair it ;-)

Yes, there are a couple of places I've made provisions (added a bolt) to add a brace, at both the inlet and outlet of the charge air cooler, and there is an old brace on the top turbo's outlet that runs over the charge pipe, it's just hidden in the pictures. I need to finish with all the misc odds and ends so I can do a some highway pulls to make sure the plumbing is solid!

Old Picture but clamp is still there:

For clamps, I usually double clamp every boot after the high pressure turbo with my cheap imported clamps mixed with factory clamps and so far it's worked well. The inter-stage boost hovers in the 50-55psi area and so far those clamps have held up fine with a single clamp as long as I keep them tight after the silicone settles on the first few heat cycles.

Who's boots are you running on the 351 now?

I bought that one off ebay over two years ago, can't remember the brand but I paid $18 for it and it's been bullet proof. I carry a spare to drag racing events just in case!!!

Feels great, the truck hasn't ran since May 2 years ago, it's been WAY TOO LONG!!!

I do have a roll cage sitting in the corner of my garage, waiting for me to install. I just don't quite have enough time to get it finished before Bakersfield/NHRDA Famoso. Maybe I'll get it installed before Mopars at the Strip in April!

It's a 10 minute job to pull the fender. I didn't realize how easy it was till I was left with no other option to pull the motor. After learning how easy it was (just a few bolts, no welds are broken) I will always pull the fender for major turbo work from here on out!!!

Really? I had to break the top ones. Can you get everything out without doing that? And maybe 10min if you have all your tools over there and the fender stripped free of the battery and anything else connected to it.

On my Junker, the inner plastic fender cover is MIA, the inner fender well is 75% removed, the battery is MIA, it literally was just a few bolts and then it was free.

On a nice truck, with good paint, and full factory accessories, I could see it taking an hour+.

The joys of having a vehicle with a body you dont care much about!
