95' Junker Drag Truck

if people don't do this, with arp2000's they are doing it wrong

Too much stretch on the stud if they dont do this ? Or what is the exact reasoning other than doing it for clearance reasons against the vavle cover ?

(Thread is full of useful information, might as well be more detailed on why)

Thread needs a damned index. I have been reading for a while on tapatalk and haven't crossed the fuel mods yet. I saw DV's thrown in. Someone help a brother out and post up a Post # for pump mods

No Speakery Engerish!

Will, I was comparing the pictures of your blown headgasket to my blown cummins brand headgasket. They look the same. Are you gonna run another victor or a cummins this time

At the last track outing, total boost was hovering in the 85-90 psi range with 65psi coming from the HT4B atmosphere turbo. Although this proves that the ported He351 internal wastegate is quite effective, it shows that the small turbine wheel is not large enough to effectively drive the stock 60mm compressor, for years I've been curious and wanted to test a larger turbine wheel in the He351's 9cm housing. Luckily there are several HX40 based turbine wheels that fit in the He351's center section.

My measurements for the stock HE351 turbine wheel are 65mm inducer x 58.16mm exducer. Many websites and sources claim the He351cw has a 60mm exducer but the (3) that I have personally measured all were very close to 58.16mm.

Although the HX40 has older aero technology in the turbine wheel vs. the more modern He351cw, there is no replacement for displacement and I'm confident the larger HX40 wheel will flow more exhaust and create more shaft horsepower to effectively drive the compressor wheel.

For $90-$100 price range, there are a few different sizes and varieties of "imported" HX40 turbine wheels.

I decided to try the 76mm x 64mm 12 blade wheel. First step was to open up the turbine housing bore. Stock bore measured 59.67mm or roughly 1.5mm larger than the turbine wheel.

For this project, I used the same old combo mill/lathe machine that was used to machine the rocker stands/towers.

Profile looks ok on the turbine blades:

Hopefully the truck will be ready next Friday to test out the new turbine wheel.

Big Blue if I were your neighbor I would be a permanent fixture in the shop! Thanks for all the insight on the project. Dave

What head gasket are you going to run this time? Same but with the ARP's?

.020" over Felpro this time around, picked it up for $59 as I recall...

My neighbors hate me!!! Too many random loud stinky diesel pick-ups pulling up all hours of the day and evening. I try to keep the noise down after 10pm, don't want to get forced out of my own home by my neighbors.....

LOL

How much did you take out of the housing?

It's half-way through the machining process in the pictures, I'm targeting 1.5mm minimum over the size of the 64mm turbine exducer or 65.5mm.

The larger major diameter in the housing has adequate clearance for the 76mm inducer without custom modification.

Curious why you chose the 12 blade vs. the 10 blade turbine? From my limited knowledge I decided on the 10 blade since it "should" flow more to drive the future primary harder. Is there any advantage to the 12 blade wheel over the 10?

I'm very glad to see you doing this by the way. I can't really give any hardcore data on my turbine swap since I also changed manifolds, ported the head, and fixed a severely leaking headgasket all at the same time. I know I ended up with less drive pressure, cooler egts, more power, and better mileage, but who knows how much was actually due to the wheel swap. You should have more direct results if that's all you're changing.

Will didn't message drive pressure before this.. Only boost.. I bet primary and overall boost drops a bit and he goes faster
