alright so i have a horrible popping and white blue smoke when i give it light gas, but if i mash it down it pops for a half second then clears up and pulls hard. mods are 94 built engine 160 pump 5x.022 jl sticks ad150 timing at 23. i just did the timing from 16 to 23 to see if it would fix it but no difference at all. I have been told i need around 40-45 psi to my pump for these injectors so i have a 45psi spring coming for my ad150. But i have been trying to figure this out for a while and cant come up with anything. There are no fuel leaks, holds pressure overnight and everything seems fine. It kinda has a rough idle but it always has. Any help would be great

Get a fuel pressure gauge and check it to be sure, I suspect its a governor issue.....but check the fuel pressure just to be safe

Wouldn't that cause it to pop constantly through the rpm range though?

I've never had the balls to push the pedal to the floor with white smoke and popping noises exiting the motor. In my experience white smoke normally means the timing slipped. It was recently adjusted from 16 to 23...maybe it was adjusted the wrong direction...maybe someone looked at the wrong timing chart...

Hes saying he bumped timing from 16 to 23 degrees to see if it would fix the problem. Apparently it was doing it beforehand. I have no clue as to what would cause it but Im interested in what you find out.

fp is 30psi wot in 4th told it was supposed to be at or around 40-45 timing i did my self with the kit from snap-on. I have a keyway cut into the pump gear so it cant slip. Egts get a max of 1500. and it only runs bad at light pedal use. if i give it half pedal it will never pop at all

How are you adjusting timing if you have the pump gear keyed? That doesn't seem right to me unless my brain isn't thinking straight tonight...

Have you checked all the typical places the fuel system can suck air? Like the fuel heater or the rubber hose going from it to the pump? If you still have either

I'm picturing a keyed pump gear... pull the pump gear loose, roll the crank to where you want your timing, line the key back up with the groove, press gear back on without the pump even moving. thats what i imagine. I would check all your boost tubes and clamps from your turbo, intercooler, and intake manifold. If you have an air leak there it can cause a popping problem sometimes but thats normally in the spool up. You may want to take your injectors out and check the pop pressure on them and make sure they have a good spray pattern and a good chatter to them. Its possible that a nozzle is messed up or pop pressure is too low and the injectors are just draining fuel out.

Did this just pop up all of a sudden? How long has it been doing it and did you change anything that may have unintentionally caused it?

Timing I did through the pump and like cumminstroked said pop it off turn back on. I even had my uncle who did his truck check it tonight and its the sa.e as I got. Now something interesting happened tonight. I filled the tank up just for the heck out it and it took 5 gallons and for the first 5 minutes it ran much better not perfect but you could notice it. All fuel lines are new cause of the airdog. And it started about 3 months ago so I took out my comp dvs and no change. It just came out of nowhere. The engine has 4500 miles as well as the IP

There was one already installed when I got the truck but it is inside of the sender not open in the tank

hmmm... I'm wondering if youre not getting a low supply to your IP or maybe even if the lift pump is sucking air somewhere. Considering its new I would think that it wouldn't be but you filling up the tank and it running better makes me think twice. What dv's are you running now?

your timing is off im sure. thats how they always act when theyve slipped timing or have been timed wrong. if you wanna start from the begining i can guide you thru it. call me if you need any help.have a good one. 8126980851
