Compound turbo build and other updates

Got it back together, spools great with the higher stall. Then blew the headgasket on the first full power launch. ****

Pulling the motor out and found this. 12v pushrods and 24v tappets don't work I guess. No wonder valve lash kept opening up. More carnage pics to follow I'm sure lol

Looks like incorrect heat treat on the 12v pushrods. If it is one of ours, send them in and we will get you a free set.

Thanks for the offer! they are your HD pushrods. I could be wrong, but I think it may not be the pushrods at fault as I was running 24V tappets. I've heard that 12v pushrods and 24v tappets aren't a perfect match, and it would seem so as I ran stock pushrods and stock 12v tappets for a long time with no problems

Pulled the head, gasket doesnt appear to be blown anywhere at first glance. #6 was full of coolant and rather scored. Had to be leaking by somewhere tho. blew all the coolant out the overflow and then hydrolocked after sitting overnight.

Man, you really need to just start over with a fresh block and head, fresh turbos, and go from there. Your truck is cursed.

Lol. I already have a good fresh bored/decked block sitting here. Head looks fine. hoping everything else is good and I can get a rebuild kit and put it back together.

So one of my cam lobes has like weird porosity, what's up with this? Hamilton 188/220, 165 lb springs, new tappets with cam.

Also my cam retainer was ate up on one side, weird lol.

Well, as it turns out, I'm a freaking idiot. I found the exhaust leak and loss of spool up, I think. Apparently there is a bolt hole on the turbine housing that goes all the way through. Never noticed when I took the gate actuator off. Hope I didn't screw up raising the TC stall 300 rpm. Lol

Any chance hx-35's would have this hole?

Just removed my Hamilton of 25k miles that looked just the same. I attribute it to not so good quality oil (low zinc). I was running Rotella 15w 40. My next build i'll be putting in a quality zinc additive to prevent that issue.

I don't want to put words in his mouth, but I think Zach posted that if you're driving is very aggressive, regular use the zinc additive is needed.
