DIY coolant by-pass?

I would think if some one wanted to know the pressures in side the head they could just put screw in a pressure gauge and check pressures while driveing. Getting the valve to pop at the right time is going to be key.
There are 2 variables here pressure from water flow and pressure from temp riseing. Need to find out what the combined pressue is when the temp in the head is elevated like 200 or more degrees and running some rpms. I would think if relief pressue was set at or near there would perform best but does anyone know what that pressure is???

Ok so this is going to sound like a half baked idea, kinda. If it was a strict puller wouldn't it wirk with a simple ball valve. Shut it to get the motor up to temp, then open it for maximum flow when pulling.

can you make a bypass and not use a valve? what woult it hurt it you ran a hose from the rear freeze plug to the heater core hose.....or top rad. hose? it would have to help cool the rear of the engine and drop the pressure a little? i dunno i may be way off!!! lol

Choosing the size of the line would be critical if you did that. Having too much bypass would make the engine always run cool and would take for ever to reach operating temperature.

X2 on a Puller:poke:

Get the truck up to operating temp. then when your ready to pull..Open it up???

Keep it closed when driving on the street

i will let you know how the ball valve works, thats what i use now. i drove it home tonight and it runs fine and gets to operating temp with it closed, like it should, got home and opened the valve, let it idle for about 5 minutes and the temp was down to 150 maybe less.

im thinking that if i crack it open part way after its at temp before i hook to the sled it will prevent pressure and temperature problems.

I ordered the valve this past Mon., should be coming soon. I have all of my fittings so.............also I'm bumping this thread up so it's easier to find.

just thinking out loud here...but if you look toward the top of this page you will see a "Thread Tools" drop down menu. Click it, and at the very bottom of that drop down menu you will see "Subscribe to this Thread". Click that.

now when you come back to find the thread, all you have to do is click "User CP" and it will be in there

Thanks for the info., appreciate it but I actually was bumping for a friend so he could find it.......he already has opies on one of his trucks but needs another for his wifes truck, plus one of his friends needs this set up, too. I already have this thread subscribed so when anyone post, I get an email, plus I saved it in a file for future ref. or if someone else needs it.

Opies is a very nice set up, but costly for some of us. The person who did the research to come up with the 'other' bypass valve and share the info., it's helped alot of people save some money and is greatly appreciated........:thankyou2::thankyou2::bow::

what i liked to know is the upper radiator splice that i see in some pic here for the bypass .where are you finding the parts for that or what to buy to make it ...

are you asking about the "T" fitting that slides into the radiator hose?

i thought highfinanace or someone posted a link to that part on jegs website?...let me see if i can find it

You can drill and tap the thermostat housing and install a 1/2'' to -10 adapt. and it's alot cheaper going that route. Jegs has all the fittings/ss braided hose, it's a -10 size= 5/8'', I priced over on summit for $110 for someone and had given him all the part #'s.

yea, the t housing but it was only a 1/4 fitting ,, or does some one know if there's enougth metal there to drill and tap ?

Look back on banshee's post, he has his in the t-housing (pic).....and it's the -10x1/2'' adapt. It's aways back. Might want to start from beginning of thread.

hey mpracehemi, could you PM me all the part numbers for the fittings please? thanks
