I have been looking into this the last few weeks myself. Does anyone have a parts list so someone can do this on their own? I was looking at Opie's, but just find it hard to pay the $.

If you're looking at the system above, the cost including the valve is around $150 depending where you get your supplies/fittings from and what material/color. I'm working on a list of most of the combo's of colors and I'll pm the ones who want it.....I'm guess you'll be another. I wish I could post only once so, I don't have to type all the info. in on everyone.

PM me with an email and I could attach. a pic.!!!!!!! That'll work.

Cammo your engine compartment looks nice, hope all goes well with changing out your popped head gasket. Diesel performance sure is fun sometimes!

dumping the hot coolant from the back of the head onto the thermostat isn't going to cause any issues?

Why would OPIE bother routing the coolant lines all the way to the other side of the radiator if he could just dump it back into the housing?

I like the simplicity of this design if it'll work.

I'm going with this type of set up, 'cept drill/tap like post #12. I think when doing it to close to thermstat will cause a problem......jmo.

Maybe opie wanted it set up so a person wouldn't mess up drill/tap in the housing and then blame his setup, get a bad rep.?? Can't speak for him...Also who came up with this idea 1st?? A person could get into legal issues for copying exactly. If I could afford opies'.........his rep. supercedes.....

I hope after I install this set up (DIY one) that I didn't just waste my $$$ AND time...and pop a plug or worse yet, a hg.

Its not really "dumping" it onto the thermostat since the coolant flow is coming from the block through the 'stat and over to the radiator... The hot coolant from the head would just be following the flow to the radiator. When I build mine I'll probably just T into the radiator hose since I hate tapping and threading round objects... plus I just got done painting the 'stat housing, lol

none of these kits will save your headgasket IMO. these kits relieve your coolant pressure, not your cylinder pressures.

Cammo I heard you where planning to run at the track.

I installed my diy by-pass today, pretty easy job. Thanks to banshee for the valve info. and a few pixs on this site, which help me alot. For the ones on the fence, just take your time drilling the 'stat housing.

There is an added cost factor though, a 1/2'' PIPE tap which I had to buy with no price hunting for the cheapest one.

I am unable to find any info on Vulcans site regarding by-pass kit. Does anyone have a part number or price for the kit? Thanks for the help, love the site!

pm me with your email info. If you look at post #12, this guy found a valve that does the job. I just made/installed mine. I have all part #'s for the fittings and valve, you do have to assemble the hose and hose ends together, it's easy. The kinda tricky part is the drill/tap of the 'stat housing, it's not bad as long as you take your time.
