EFILive Beta First Impressions

from what i understand there is plans of transmission control in the future but i think getting the engine software released first throughout all the years is first on the list. the transmission control and the multi software switch to follow suit.

I realize the efi live team and testers are still on the 5.9, but I was thinking about purchasing ATS's new co-pilot just to help the transmission performance a little more with my 09 6.7. Has anyone heard wether efi will be able to tune the tcm as well. Sorry to get ahead of the game, but just don't want to spend a few shiney coins and try to sell it used later if efi is going to have that capability as well.

It'll happen I bet, just gonna take time. That co-pilot is $$, you could get a TCM tune from B&G for quite a bit cheaper.

I'm pretty sure Goerends has the TCM controller as well.

Just a quick update. Late last week we confirmed our impending release date. This was/is in the process of being communicated to our dealer network, and once that has been finalised the date will be announced publicly.

We missed our Easter rescheduled deadline, which is unfortunate, but on the positive side of things we didn't miss it by much.

Happy Easter.

Cheers

Please forgive my ignorance as I am used to "box tuners". Does EFIlive get VIN locked or can you program more than one truck with the same Programmer at the same time?

Here's a quote from EFI Live

"FlashScan V2 Scan Tool ships with 0 licenses.
When you purchase either the Cummins Tuning license or the GM Tuning license, you'll also be issued with 2 VIN licenses. If you purchase both tuning licenses, you'll get 4 VIN licenses.
Currently FlashScan V2 can hold a maximum of 221 VIN licenses, although we are looking at expanding this capacity via a firmware upgrade".

So basically, if you purchase the FlashScan Tool w/ Cummins Tuning license, then you'll be able to tune 2 cummins vehicles right out of the box. You'll then have the ability to purchase additional licenses' at an additional cost.

You can program multiple vehicles with our product. Our licensing scheme allows you to tune over 200 vehicles before you need new hardware. FlashScan V2 ships with 2 licenses to allow you to tune 2 vehicles out of the box, additional licenses to tune additional vehicles can be purchased online for $99 each.

Once you license an ECM to your FlashScan device you cannot "reset" it like other programmers to use that license on another vehicle - once it's licensed, it's licensed.

Once the vehicle is licensed is it only to one V2 or will you beable to use different ones to do the same vehicle? Such as having it tuned by someone with there V2 and then going to another writer and using the one they have?

I believe any v2 can be used. Thats my situation.
Licensed to one vehicle and can be uploaded(?) to the ECM by that v2. Files can be written by any tuner but have to be loaded back on the specific licensed vehicle by the original v2.

Idk if thats true.. How can tuners email tunes to there customers then? The customer has to be able to open the file thats vin locked with there v2 from email to upload into ecm.

A license is attached to a specific V2; so if you flash your truck with your V2, and then try to modify the tune with your buddies V2 you will be required to license the ECM to that second V2.

A file can be saved independently to flashing. ie. you could write 20 different tunes and save them and not use a license until you flash them. Those 20 tunes may be for the same truck or multiple trucks. VIN # in the tune is irrelevant, our licensing is based off ECM serial number.

You or a tuner can write a tune, save it and email it off, and when the end user flashes it into their truck it will be licensed with that V2. This feature is not only valuable for professional tuners, it's also valuable for the whole tuning community and file sharing via email and/or the tune library.

The general scenario for Duramax is....Someone uploads a tune in the tune library, you download it, you read the blurb on the tune, look at the change made and then make a decision about running that tune in your truck (or applying the tuning principles used on your own tune)

There is another point here that needs to be considered, for those people who run multiple ECM's in the one vehicle ie. a stock ECM and a modified ECM), if you decide to flash both, you will need to license both given the serial numbers are different.

So basicly the original V2 that is licensed for the vehicle is the only one that has the license for it not just a license that covers that vehicle for any V2?
