EFILive Beta First Impressions

So I was asked about two weeks ago to join the BETA tetsing team...I had little knowledge about EFI and how it all worked.

Within a day or so I had the basics nailed and was starting to play around with the stock tune on my truck. I was very impressed with the ease of navigation, the well thought out descriptions and general layout of the tuning tool. Scantool was just as easy to use and follow. The potential for us Cummins guys to tailor our truck to our specific liking is here and very easy to use.

Within a few days I had this to say to the EFI guys ...

Thanks to EFI Live, I can now drive my truck from a dead stop floored, blow the tires off in first and second...ALL SMOKE FREE!!!!!!!

I have been used to driving with a soft foot for years now, and I forgot what good, clean, almost linear power (falls into my lap, still new at this), feels like!!!

I havent even began to add anything (timing, rail pressure, duration), all ive done so far is smooth out all the tables, and lower cruising RP down from 20K at 70mph down to 15K at 70mph...and I swear I've picked up 2MPG (need a full tank to be sure).

There is so much potential that I havent even touched yet, its not even funny.

So just so you guys dont lose hope with the release date being pushed back...it will be WELL worth the wait. EFI is doing everything they can to make this release as smooth and free of issues as possible.

Thanks to EFI for bringning FULLY USER ADJUSTABLE TUNING to the Cummins crowd. So far a job VERY well done...and if the last 2 weeks have been any indication of your work ethic....there will nothing but smiling faces in the future.

Thanks
Les

Thanks for the great write up Les. This news is great, I was beginning to wonder if I should just go ahead and purchase SSR and then buy EFI later down the road. I am now going to go ahead and wait (at least for a couple more months) and see if EFI will be out by then. I am very excited to get it since we have a dyno local here now that I can get on pretty easily. Can anyone answer if EFI will be able to do some of the simple things that you can do with Smarty or BD like enabling your hi idle and enabling your fogs to run with your brights on?

thanks guys

If you already had the high idle enabled from a previous downloader...it should still be there.
I know it is on the list to add for those who don't already have it enabled.

Thanks
Les

This is what I like to see being a EFI resellar. The Dmax tuning is so good that most customers buy tuning and load it into their trucks and that is the end of it. I love hearing from customers that continue to use the software and tweak for their individual needs.

That is the beauty of EFI over the other options. Seems like the Dodge crowd will really take advantage of the power of adjustability for each application.

I haven't played around with my low end fueling as much as I need to yet. I had some troule spooling up this weekend at the pull but once I got it lit, she was good to go.. carried right at 4200rpm's down the track. need diff gears for this year..lol held a nice 25k rail down the track..

What are the main things you been working on?? Timing, rail, duration...etc...

we did timing . pilot injection.. duration along with rail.. we are stuck there my injectors arent allowing anymore duration without compromising rail.. but with more tuning in other parameters I think I can get it.. injectors really are to big..

So I asked the same question on another thread it is,,with the new types of software out and coming out will the use of larger injectors and dual pumps be limited to EXTREME applications or is it not going to change

You guys are killing me.
Ive been waiting 7 years to be able to (I can now drive my truck from a dead stop floored, blow the tires off in first and second...ALL SMOKE FREE!!!!!!!)
Keep up the good work EFI.

Support for 06-07 5.9L CAN based vehicles will be publicly released before the end of the month.

Fog lights are not controlled by the ECM, so it's not a function we'll add. (Typically we only support ECM/TCM modules)

That said, we are working with door lock controls, which is based off vehicle speed so is controlled by the ECM.

The main idle speed tables exist within the software. We need to increase our understanding of this function, and perform more testing. Typically hi idle is a separate function/option on the vehicle. That said, if it's controllable by the ECM we'll be able to add functionality.

Cheers
Cindy

Why would you want to? Don't the harmonics get wacky at lower RPM's?

Just to ensure that there is FULL control over tables...so far not being able to get it lower says that there is still development to be done.

I have no use for making it lower...but you know there is always somebody who will ask....
