EFILive Beta First Impressions

I don't know how this waiting for efi live is for every one else but I think I'm going through withdrawls. I was trying to stay ahead of the curve so I sold my BDCL, EZ and ddp 90 and put a smaller single on 66-16 a month ago.so now I'm driving around a laggy pig and then that d@$n SSR gets released and that's like telling a crack head to not worry about smokin the current best rock(ssr) to wait for the superior crack(efi) when he quit a month ago cold turkey. I don't know if anyone else is in this situation but it's a hell of a deal. I was just wondering if this is considered a problem or if there is anybody else out there jones'n as bad as me to get some that efi smoke:Cheer:

there is no release date...and it has been mentioned before.. it 06-07 trucks for right now.

I shouldn't respond but I will. I assume you knew I was being factious with my post. Of course I know there is no release date, and what trucks are covered. I read the 54 pages and not a lazy a$$ like others that ask the same stupid questions instead of reading or searching. No harm no foul.
this is just a general rant to all the idiot posters.
I am tired of cummins forum for the same reason. If you can't read how the heck do you think you are going to master efi live or any other tech stuff? More importantly who do you think you are that your time is more important or valuable then mine so you don't have to read or search threads? Clearly you are lazy and disrespectful so I will answer it for you. You aren't more important so do your research and man up.

Thanks to all the hard work from EFI and the beta testers! I can't wait to get it for my 6.7L! 480hp 1150 lb ft with a smarty and mp8 I can't wait to see what it is with efi live!

who pissed in your cup? whos all this idiot talk to? I answerd your? if you do a simple search in efi forum you would see its been mentioned numerous times what ecm is being used as of right now. cindy even tells you the order in which the next software will be released.

You jumped the gun too soon....I might have done the same if I were in the same boat...sucks huh?? Used to being able to barely squeeze the throttle and you'd passed the slower moving vehicle in blink of an eye...now someone is passing you...withdrawls sucks, huh??

I think you may have misunderstood/misread his reply to you. He wasn't ranting at you.

Looks like this was all that was aimed toward you. CrazyHass84: "I shouldn't respond but I will. I assume you knew I was being factious with my post. Of course I know there is no release date, and what trucks are covered. I read the 54 pages and not a lazy a$$ like others that ask the same stupid questions instead of reading or searching. He then went on a rant aimed at all the people who seriously ask the question he facetiously asked (that question being, "What trucks/settings are supported, and release date?).

His quote - 2nd part, not aimed at you: "this is just a general rant to all the idiot posters.

I deal with the withdrawls on a day to day basis.a friend lent a hand and barrowed me a PPE he wasn't using. But to be honest it isn't scratching my itch,at first it smokes so I think were good to go and that's were it stops and it is slightly better than stock to end is what I get. It is just a dark time in my diesel performance life right now. At least there is some efi light at the end of the tunnelLOL

Here is a little more detailed update on our progress that was posted on our site earlier tonight....

Last week we expanded our Beta program to include several additional testers. This was done to help us speed up the process of our testing as well as expose the software to fresh eyes to see how new users will manage. We needed to see how users who hadn't been exposed to custom tuning took to the process. Not only have we had excellent feedback from these new testers regarding parameters and how the tune tool and scan tool interact, it's also been very helpful for our documentation and support network for when we do release. We have produced a quick start guide which will be given a once over from the Beta testers too.

With respect to the software, this is what we've been working on recently:
- added support for new some new operating systems (they keep popping up).
- injection timing and fuel pressure controls confirmed as working well, commanding 26,000 PSI no problem with verification on the scanner it's doing it.
- full control of post and pilot injection confirmed as working.
- currently testing tire size adjustments (we may add a calculator in addition to current controls).
- Wastegate control - we've made good progress on this feature and people have been able to remove boost foolers.
- auto door lock disable feature in testing (mixed results).
- Scantool PID group selection working well, although we may need to retrain our existing GM customers - this approach is very different to what they are used to. We expect this method to be far more helpful with users assisting each other.

What we are still working on:
- fuel hang - appears to be operating system related. The issue is resolved on some trucks via tuning, and is still being experienced on others. We are compiling a list of OS's that it works on and doesn't work on to try and resolve this completely.
- RPM limiters - we've had some success consistently lifting the limiter to 4200 and removing that huge back off to 3600. We haven't hit the magical 5000, but we are still actively working on this though not as a priority for release day.
- door lock disable feature is working on some trucks but not others. Still need to do more digging on this, although it won't prevent us releasing (nice to have, but unnecessary)
- flashing tunes from one vehicle into another. We need to finalise testing to ensure there are no security issues or no start issues.

What's needed for us to release?
- The testers (and ourselves) need to have a better understanding of certain table affects on the final injection pulsewidth algorithms and the Fuel Pressure control systems to support our customers as knowledgeable as possible.
- Keep testing the RPM limiters.
- Finalise documentation (will anyone read it??)
- There are a few minor fixes needed to the software, and then I expect we'll have one more full beta release before we are ready to go public.

We just want to make sure that when it's released that all tuners are going to have the ability to produce better tunes than what is currently on the market today. When I say better, I don't mean the highest horsepower or highest RPM, all that will come, I mean something the drives smooth like a factory vehicle yet performs significantly better.

Cheers,
Ross

As also mentioned in the thread on our site, we expect our public release to be available well before the end of May.

Cheers
Cindy

A little tip on the Fuel hanging...Unless the testers are running the 30K Pressure sensor (running pressures above 24K) it may not be overtaken on the try side..the CPRV helps but does not eliminate it entirely..Just trying to speed things ups so we can have the correct release.

thanks for the update EFI Live team!

i dont really care about the door lock feature at all, and didn't know you were working on that functionality.

but while you're at it:

disable horn beep on reverse with door open
enable auxillary power after key is removed from ignition

Good work so far, can't wait but i agree with vintagespeed

disable horn beep on reverse with door open !!

please !!!

So I was asked about two weeks ago to join the BETA tetsing team...I had little knowledge about EFI and how it all worked.

Within a day or so I had the basics nailed and was starting to play around with the stock tune on my truck. I was very impressed with the ease of navigation, the well thought out descriptions and general layout of the tuning tool. Scantool was just as easy to use and follow. The potential for us Cummins guys to tailor our truck to our specific liking is here and very easy to use.

Within a few days I had this to say to the EFI guys ...

Thanks to EFI Live, I can now drive my truck from a dead stop floored, blow the tires off in first and second...ALL SMOKE FREE!!!!!!!

I have been used to driving with a soft foot for years now, and I forgot what good, clean, almost linear power (falls into my lap, still new at this), feels like!!!

I havent even began to add anything (timing, rail pressure, duration), all ive done so far is smooth out all the tables, and lower cruising RP down from 20K at 70mph down to 15K at 70mph...and I swear I've picked up 2MPG (need a full tank to be sure).

There is so much potential that I havent even touched yet, its not even funny.

So just so you guys dont lose hope with the release date being pushed back...it will be WELL worth the wait. EFI is doing everything they can to make this release as smooth and free of issues as possible.

Thanks to EFI for bringning FULLY USER ADJUSTABLE TUNING to the Cummins crowd. So far a job VERY well done...and if the last 2 weeks have been any indication of your work ethic....there will nothing but smiling faces in the future.

Thanks
Les

2007 5.9/ Les...so you're saying those of us that are worried about how to use and play around with this new TOY are basicly making a mountain out of a hill for nothing....it's that easy to work with??

I KNOW when I tried to down load the smarty TNT/R program, I was close to saying 'f' this 's' and go back to using my bdpmt/cl....trying to navigate thru zip files and what not was a total pita!!! I'm talking about around 2 yrs. ago, if it was made alot easier present time...Only reason I have the r tune is due to I can't back down and some how I made it thru....don't ask me how to do it again tho.

Sooo....you're saying it's easy to use EFI and those of us that are 'tech' challenged don't have anything to worry about....Right??

I'm trying to sell my gasser toy so I can buy a '06 ^ 4x4 and build it better than what I have my 2wd built and have EFI to have even MORE power. I haven't played with my car close to a yr. now..just sits. I'm having too much fun with diesel power AND dd it!!! Can't drive my 945 hp + as a dd....

Don't get me wrong, there is a learning curve but once you understand the basics and how the ECM uses these tables (Ross has descriptions for most of them intergrated into the table) you begin to understand how to modify them to get your goal.

I currently have what I believe to be a 550hp approx tune from just smoothing...one I begin to add duration and timing, the power will only go up.

My goal so far has been to have zero smoke at all throttle positions and little rattle. So far I've been able to achieve this...the stock timing tables have huge peaks and valleys that once smoothed provide very predictable throttle response.

And we have full control over pilot and post timing, so I am running no post event and the truck loves it.

My biggest piece of advise to the non tech people is to go to efi website and download the duramax software and start to play with the tables...you can just begin to modify simple things and see how to navigate.

Thanks
Les

Other things to add...I no longer need a boost fooler, pressure box, and so far there is a built in soft revlimiter that you can set to any rpm you wish up to 4000.

The number of tables that have been added in the last 2 weeks is incredible...in every update there are atleast a half dozen or so added to the base set of tables.

Full control over almost every fueling option is avail, you can choose when and where in the rpm band to command full fuel, where to command full rail, where to command full anything.....

Best thing is that YOU are in control of all this!!!!

Thanks
Les
