EFILive Beta First Impressions

How much is the VS2 with all of the needed licenses?

FlashScan V2 with the Cummins Tuning license enabled is $798. For this price you will be able to tune 2 trucks out of the box. If you need to tune additional trucks extra VIN licenses can be purchased for $99.00.

Cheers
Cindy

Today we tuned my Megacab with Zach at Starlitediesel.com... Dyno'd @ Industrial Injection 328 RWHP stock run - w/ tune 428 RWHP. We are running a 100 hp tune as of right now. We are starting out so dialing it in will be in good time. Running 100mph up a hill and holding 1200 EGT the whole way. EGT's say more room to grow for sure. My truck is all stock besides Raptor 150, Intake, Exhaust... Our elevation here in Utah makes my number lower than other places around the country. Trans will be coming soon and other Mods.

Hope everyone is getting excited. I couldn't sleep last night to say the least. The power is progressive for this tune, no rattle - motor is smooth running and quiet, more throttle the harder it pulls.

how was the level of smoke ?

how was the level of smoke ?

There was *NO* smoke.... a little tiny whisp. I have some of the runs video taped and will be putting them on YouTube tomorrow. I'll post the links here. There is more room to turn this truck up - but it was a long day at the shop today for us with other projects as well, and I was happy to achieve a clean and usable 100 HP to the ground... Since his trans is stock, I wasn't going to push the envelope today.

This truck was being tested because it appears to have a potential fix for the dreaded throttle hang issue.... picking up a 100 HP today was simply a product of testing other things to make sure the throttle hang didn't return. More results on this truck to come!

*NO* smoke you speak of, is this possible with a heavily modified (big inj, twins, ext) truck as well?

I ask because the truck you describe sounds mostly stock.

I don't think you're understanding the capabilities of this software. With a fully programmable system, you can tune the level of smoke you deem acceptable.

We just weighed our 07 5.9 tow rig with trailer and went 25,700 lbs. We drove to Redding, CA event 1000 miles + testing tow tunes.

Truck is stock with the cat on it even. No smoke, egt's max 1250 WOT climbing 7+% grades climbing over 5000' elevation. EGT's average 11-1200degrees on most climbs. Can hold 55mph on any grade towing that kind of load. Monte raced it all day on the same tune and was running mid 15's. More testing while towing to Spokane Raceway this next weekend as well as dyno runs.

Auto trans, totally stock truck with 285/70/17's.

There is no fuel rattle, engine is smoother/quieter than stock.

I really did not like this truck until this trip. I'm spoiled having a twin turbo Duramax usually towing the same load. The tunes really came around and made me like this truck.

Mileage was 10-11 towing the load 25,700 lbs going from sea-level (Redding) to over 5000+' and then to Boise, some in 4x4 (snow) Defrost on most of the time. There was not 10 miles that the truck had a steady peddle. Twists and climbing (2 lane the whole trip). I expect this to go up 20-30% next weekend with tuning adjustments and more normal highway driving. I'll post the results good or bad after the trip this next weekend.

Great info Rob. I will be looking forward to one of your tunes. About how much HP you thank over stock.

Not sure what a stock crew cab long box 3500 with extras runs in the 1/4 mile, but looking at 15.6 second passes and by my a$$ meter, thinking 80HP (just a guess though)

We will test with tuning alone on the trip up. then install an MBRP exhaust and CAI for the trip back and compare the gains. These stock torque converters sure suck, I can see MPG gains coming with a converter upgrade and we'll test this also.

Here is the video of one of the runs.... You will see very little, or IMO pretty much 'no' smoke coming out of this truck.

Again, I wasn't testing to see what sort of HP I could get out of the truck (the 100 HP gain was purely a by-product of other testing)... but even still, I'm sure everyone with a hopped up truck remembers how cool that first 100 HP gain was....

Anyways, here's the video:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RoyWdmJIXKI

(just for clarification - this truck baselined dyno'd 326 HP. This run was 415.74 HP, and was later picked up to 428 HP with very mild changes to the tune... again - the point of this testing day was to try to re-create the throttle hang issue on this truck, if possible. The good news was that the throttle hang did not return even with 100HP more going to the ground)...

That's why I asked the Question.

I was wondering if a basicly smoke free tune was possible?

I have read about the possibility of future "switchable" tunes, like on the Duramax, and the possibility of a smoke free street tune as one of the switchable options.

Has any of the Beta testers tuned any highly modded trucks yet?
Just curious.

Just catching up here. I can attest to Rob's info as I was either the passanger or driver for this trip. Just checked the instamapper data and round trip was just over 1100 miles. Average speed today was over 52 miles per hour and as Rob stated that was traveling on two lane highway through mountains and high deserts most of the way. 516 miles in less than 10 hours including the fuel stops. I too was impressed with the improvement of this truck over stock tune. I look forward to Spokane and addtional info we gather while testing this truck.

Without me in it, but with plenty of extra's my truck weighs in at an even 8K, QCLB 3500 with a NV-5600.. So with a driver a 15.6 would be about 425 hp.. amazing considering how cool it ran with the stock turbo.
