Hit the 03/04 HP wall

His egt's and boost numbers are to low to be out of air. We've seen 650-713 out of the super b special out of at least 4 other trucks(2cr's, p-pumped 24v, and my 12v). The sweet spot of the turbo seems to be 52-58psi with the egt's being around 1400*-1500*

how can u judge a a number on boost. Im not trying to start a arguement, just wondering becasue i Have seen a truck with a 64mm make 600 and seen a 64mm truck making 760 with less boost? boost is only a restriction number. if someone has a ported head it will make more power with less boost along with compression factors.

Erick, can you clarify something? When you say "without TST" did you have the bypass harness in or was the module just turned all the way down? Was that the case with the 1080 run you previously referenced when you said Smarty and EZ only?

Just curious. I can't prove it yet, but it seems even if the TST is installed and turned off it seems to fool something that is tripping the defuel.

For the record: Bob has been more than supportive with me on this dilemma that a few of us are experiencing; with product support, ideas, and patience with my uncertain feedback. I haven't been able to get the truck on the rollers yet to fully test some of his ideas.

I don't believe every truck is falling victim to this. Browns and Dockboy are two success stories that prove north of 8 bills is attainable on fuel with these motors. Both have or have used a TST as well. **scratches head**

The TST was completely off the truck. The TST was causing some issues because it couldn't keep up (fast taching) and it would make the truck buck at a certain rpm that would be different every run. So i thought I had a harness problem, but i think it was the TST and not the harness for the TST.

Chrleb1. Everytime u dyno did u remove the air filter?

Yeah, it didn't have a filter on it. I had a filter setup for the big turbo, but the tubing actually started to collapse when boost was coming it. I need to make a new steel tubing for the filter setup. Plus there aren't many filters out there that will flow 2,400 cfm effectively.

The TST/Smarty stack was causing an overlap in duration on mine on certain settings, holding an injector open and causing carnage:doh:

Yes it was on the the camo Fummins (not a Fodge jeeze LOL). Dont remember the Smarty only # but I think it was in the low 800's and with the TST it went straight to 1088.

We too have had some wierd issues with the TST kinda doing what you described but with the gain in hp I just cant go without it.

With the new motor, I'm gonna try it without the TST again and see what it wants to do. Don wants to play with the injectors a little bit and now I will have some better air. I was only pushing 26 psi out of my big charger before, now it'll be gated at 35, which will pick up about 300 cfm.

What is the max rail pressure for the trucks with the loading issue?

The reason I ask is because even with new-ish injector bodies, I'm still maxing out at 22.5, only at or near WOT. Mp8 up 100% too

tho I still need to re torque my crossover tubes but from this injector swap. But I have a feeling it won't matter

The hp numbers on the Dyno have been higher while running higher boost. The Cr's have made more power in the 50-55psi range. Granted my truck is a 12v I've run between 40-60psi on a 62/65, 64/71, and a 66/71, all 3 turbos made more power between 55-60 psi than they did in the 40's, I've seen up to 35 hp difference. My highest hp and coolest egt's have been with the 64/71/14 set at 58psi, even though a 66/71/14 should move more air.

I had my truck on the dyno and at 42 psi I would only make 608 bumped it up to 55ish and made 658.

I can't wait to hear why they find.
Im more interested in seeing exactly how much power this is costing us...and getting that power back.
I've always been curious at what the HP loss is.

I'm hoping the 04.5's get some R&D as well, though I heard some scuttlebutt about a fully adjustable Revo.... the market's huge. Credit card in hand.

Bob W.....I can't afford anymore failures with my truck....Would love to be inline for the new adjustable revo is poss....Looking forward to the future with this...

MY POST ISNT SAYING THAT A LOWER BOOST WILL NET YOU A HIGHER HP ONLY THAT YOU CANT JUDGE HP OFF OF BOOST NUMBERS. THATS ALL.

how do you find out what %load your making i just got a new pump and injectors and am fairly disapointed. i would like to see hoe hard the pump is workin

Well the short story is that the calculated load percentage is just an output number from the ecu. We were able to manipulate the ecu to get it to read 100% but it actually lost power. It has to do with the torque management code for the 03/04s. Basically, its irrelevant and has no effect on power production from the Smarty. The TST with its electrical fooling will screw with the number (and make more power) but we aren't losing anything with the Smarty alone.
