Noticed a good sized exahust leak the other day. Pulled the top turbo off and found that the wastegate cover on my 64/13ss was warped and leaking.

Has anyone else had this issue?

Should I just put some high temp gasket maker in there and put it back together? Or maybe look into a thicker cover?

Byron.
Mine is leaking also. I am going to be making some thicker covers. Pm me an address and I'll ship you one.

It'd be nice if you could have it water jetted from some 3/16" stainless or something....wouldn't have to worry about it again I woudn't think.

Mine is leaking as well.... I have a 5/8 thick chunk of aluminum I was going to mill, and, dish it a little in the area of the wastegate, to give it more room.....

But, I am thinking aluminum wont be up to the task in this area(too hot from exhaust).... but, the pistons are aluminum... Ah.. just thinking outloud...

FWIW, I dont have the HTT 13ss.. .but, there are quite a few turbos that use this plate.

Mine came with a thicker cover, and I dished it for the gate and mod'd the flapper to open more.

That one in the photo sure is on the thin side!

Is the wastegate housing machined flat too? I mean, you can make the cover flat, but if the mating surface isn't flat...well, then it's all for not.

Byron,

How much boost are you running on the bottom turbo? Which bottom turbo are you using? I guess I'm wondering what kind of drive pressure you have on the bottom turbo.

While you have that plate off, make sure that both of the wastegate pucks are closed...

I used that stuff last saturday on my exhaust manifold to turbo connection. We'll see how long it takes to leak! So far so good, I'm still burning the WD40 off my turbo's exhaust manifold so it may last a long time. Everytime I go WOT and get EGT's to 1500 and then slow down, I can smell the burning WD-40!

Running the 64/13ss over an S480.

It has been a while since I had everything on the truck...

But if I remember right I was making about 65 PSI overall, and 33 on the bottom.

I don't have a drive pressure gauge yet.

I did mess with the wastegate pucks. They did seem to be closed. I compressed the spring (MPI Twins) a few times, and they didn't hang up or anything.

That plate is thin due to the clearance of a 3rd gen in the stock position. We have seen a few warp and leak. Thicker plates are available, we have made them in 5/16", 3/8" and 1/2"

Ya a 3/8" washer can be put under the other puck and gentley tap on the other one untill you have them both sealing very well on the floor, this will help spool up by 50%, 6 cyl spool much better than 3 on a divided manifold and tubine housing.

Kinda makes you wonder how they get that way though, doesn't it...
