HTT 13ss Wastegate Cover

X3!! i kinda have it in my head but the whole "press in a longer bushing to act as a pilot" got me spinning. I started a post about my plate leaking as well I must have missed this one...

The longer bushing is used as a drill bushing so you can drill the hole in the other side without the drill walking. I suggest 2 bushings. One for the drill and another for the reamer to take it to finish size. Reamers follow a bushing very well.

could you at least take a picture of the parts used. kinda hard to grasp without seeing.

thanks

I think it would also be a good idea to weld a tab on the thin side of the housing(where the exhaust runs from the wg down into the exhaust exiting the turbine) so it could be milled flush and add a tapped hole there to help hold the cover. I'm going to hold off on pictures. I suspect someone will be offering this as a mod for $$ soon.(not me)

Dang... All about the money..... Thats ok, when I put the twins on I will check into it, and do a write up on what I find, and do.. I have way more time off than money being a firefighter.. It will be free of charge too..

No money on my part. I'm just betting that someone will offer to fix them for a fee soon. I just don't like interfering with someones bread and butter. I always give my stuff away.

how far away are you from doing your twins?

i'd like to do something to the wg, but if your close to doing yours. ill let you go first and ill follow.

I will prolly be a month ot two.. I'm starting to collect what is needed for the twins.. I just spend 1k on my tranny and inturn pushed the twins further back..

A smaller example. Bushings on both sides supporting shaft. Stays closed, no flex.

Took the plate off mine today and it was leaking from back made template and cut new one out of 3/16" plate. One of the pucks is loose so im gonna take it off and try what rona is talking about, where do i get bushings and new rod and what size do i need?

i dont think it would be that crucial

couple thou

the spring in the gate is holding the pucks closed

slop or not

both of em if the shaft goes all the way thru

like it should have from the manuf

this mod would be best done in a full blown fab/machine shop

most guys dont have what it would take to do it correctly in their garage

key word correctly

don

Took mine off to fix the cover, it was warped about 1/16 out between bolts. Noticed I had bigger problems then wastegate cover though:

according to my autometer cobalt it never really got TOO hot for a long period maybe 1600 for a few secs.

Did you have any adapter plates, or any fabricated parts between the engine and charger?? I've seen steel adapter plates/etc. melt, and cause stuff like that.

What's the turbine wheel look like?? Bad?
Chris

surprisingly turbine wheel looks okay musta broke off in small chunks over time.. When it was the top turbo in my twinset it had a 1/2" steel spacer. Its been on single charger duty for about 2 months.

Some of you guys could tear up an anvil with a rubber mallet.
Are you talking about the crack, or did you not cut the big piece out of the divider?

You must be using Crest with fluoride to clean your turbine wheel. That's too much iron for any turbine's diet.
