HTT 13ss Wastegate Cover

Running the 64/13ss over an S480.

It has been a while since I had everything on the truck...

But if I remember right I was making about 65 PSI overall, and 33 on the bottom.

I don't have a drive pressure gauge yet.

I did mess with the wastegate pucks. They did seem to be closed. I compressed the spring (MPI Twins) a few times, and they didn't hang up or anything.

I have a 66/16ss over an S480. I have not had the plate warp, but I have had problems with the pucks. Maybe I haven't had the plate warp because with the larger exhaust housing, and less exhaust is going through the wastegate? Something else to watch out for...

I got a quote for a cover from E.D. yesterday. I'm going to order 1 today. Give them a call Byron.

While the cover is off, it's a good idea to fix the wastegate. remove the assembly, press in a longer bushing to act as a pilot and drill the hole that the shaft rides in all the way through the other side. Make a new piece to hold the pucks and weld it onto a new shaft that is supported at both ends. At even modest boost levels it will torque open when it's only supported on one end. Just my personal opinion.

Pics to describe better what you are saying would be :rockwoot:..

Sounds like a good fix.

X2 pics would be great!

X3!! i kinda have it in my head but the whole "press in a longer bushing to act as a pilot" got me spinning. I started a post about my plate leaking as well I must have missed this one...

thats a good idea

hard to believe they dont mod em there at htt or ii

as much as they charge for the stupid things

Well I talked to the Marketing manager for HTT via PM on this site and he has offered to send me a 2nd plate to back up the original plate at no cost. We will see how it goes!:rockwoot:

:rockwoot:

thats really nice of him but i dont want another plate that is gonna warp like the original one did

with this occuring so frequently the big 3 or 4 (or whoever bought the rights to the s300) need to come up with a fix and let us all send em back (on their dime) so they can fix them correctly. the wastegate too...

they raped us when we bought the things - would be nice if they made em work - and live

don

I decided last week that I would send my truck back to dodge. Last fall I had a head gasket start to leak. What were they thinking designing a head sealing system that would only hold 850hp, and 175 low 11 second 1/4 mile passes!?!

I bought the truck used... Do you think that will matter?

And im with you 100% on that! Per the rep, they are making a stiffer one for the SS, now that they realize the stock borg warner ones arent cutting it. For my situation with the cast housing, they are sending me 2 new ones, to double the thickness, so it wont warp.

I dont think you are seeing the situation correctly. We didnt buy stock turbos and put 50 lbs through them and are mad cuz they are leaking. We bought performance turbochargers, and spent good money on them. They should hold the extra duty. correct me if im wrong.

I could not agree more...

I apologize. I did not mean to make light of the situation. There are just so many things that until we end up exceeding the design limits, nobody has any idea that it would end up being a weak point. The important thing to me, is that the company makes changes so that it doesn't happen again. I don't mind breaking something once. It sounds like now that HTT has been alerted to it being a weakness, they are taking sets to correct the problem. My dealings with HTT have always been ones.

Dave at HTT has helped me many times. I have no issue with them. These little issues come up sometimes.

Reading part of this story I want to point out one thing. The Borg Warner plate and the HTT plate are not interchangeable by design. The way it reads, the blame is on the BW plate not being able to hold up on the HTT SS housing. That could be true, however it doesnt fit that housing so that is not the root cause of the failure.
