HTT wastegate TEMPORARY FIX, while waiting for the real

Is this problem only on the ss housings? I have a 14cm housing and have been chasing this problem for a while now.

So does this mean they have the permanant Fix? Do you care to enlighten Mr. Allen?
I have no idea how permanent it is. It is stronger, but only time will tell. If it doesn't work, there are other options.

So, let me get this straight. HTT is the only turbo with this large of a internal gate? why aren't the others having this problem?

the extra surface area created by the larger 1" pucks creates too much leverage against the arm

(high the drive pressure and a lot of heat when running a lot of fuel)

the arm bends

i can not bend one tho without the trailer behind my truck

i think they need to break down and make some arms out of inconel 617

putting the shaft all the way across the housing and supporting it on both ends would not hurt but until they make the arm out of something that is not going to bend its all for naught

imo

will all the SS housing from high tech that are bought in the future have this fix done to them?? i really like the design of the housing over the cast, but i dont want ot have any wastegate issues. thanks for the info everyone!

One would assume so.

HTT has a good test subject that is going to try and break it. If he does, changes will be made.
When I first talked to them about some issues I had seen with the wastegates, they already had it drawn up. I had some free time and offered to run some for them to try. I have always had great service from HTT and they were a pleasure to deal with on this.

its not real tough to test

all u need is a 400+ hp truck, a long 6%+ grade, and a 10k+ trailer

Ron,

I was told to send mine in this week, although it won't go out of here until Friday or Sat. but Htt seems to have confidence in your work....I'm looking forward to it!!

Thanks man!!

I talked to HTT today. They seem confident they will have a "seed" program in the works starting next week. You need to front $750 for the core exhaust housing . I'm hoping to get in on that action.

I can tell you guys first hand that RonA is one of or the best darn machinist there is! The man can brainstorm some mind bogling stuff that works and looks great!

Seed program? Check to see if your arm is bent. I sent mine in to HTT, and they said if it wasn't bent they don't plan on fixing them.

Seed program. The idea here is they have housings on hand to ship out, you swap one time same day once you get it, and send the old back for a refund. A turbo serial number is required prior to shipping in this case.

The other alternative they have is you send the entire turbo to them. They will fix the turbo and add a one year warranty from that day forward. Not a bad deal I suppose. I thought about it, but I think I'll just take the housing swap deal.

My arm is not bent like the first one I had. My bottom puck does not seal. if I can have the bullseye actuator set to 45psi on the road. the gauge flutters like crazy, like +-3psi. The turbo will shoot to 50, and fall to under 40 if you load it well on the brake good around 2000rpm. Ya wonder where all the upper rpm power goes? yeah out the gate. heh.

Then picture taking the turbo off the truck, sticking your finger in the inlet to the exhaust housing and pushing on the bottom puck, you can see light and spin it even with out pushing it from the back side. If you try to push the top puck, you'll break a bone before you move it with your finger.

that right there I say is grounds for warranty if you have any of these symptoms. Remember, my fix here the turbo lite instantly in comparison. however, my fix fell out, melted, whatever.

I have heard the spring actuators are a no no though. HTT said to take them off.

How are they a "no no" the boost actuated ones work on the same principle and pressure at rest and are angled the same way from what i recall.

I dunno how to explain how I explained seed program any better dude. Sorry.

They flutter, it is a spring, there isn't a dampner on them is it? HTT told me they don't like the spring actuated ones, because they flutter. I didn't ask anymore. He just asked what kind of actuator I was using.
The air actuated one basically has the air acting as a damper.

As far as the seed program, what are you saying, you mean they have a potential for a big problem or??
