off the wall experiment

So I think the max flow from the he351 turbine can only push the gt55 to 25 psi. I also believe that my e gate is not working properly and need to try a new way to control it. I also am going to look at making my spring gate better. I will eventually step up to a larger turbine be it a new s300 or modified hx40 in this guy. I took it to the dyno today and was not impressed with its performance. Granted these numbers are un corrected and it was an inertia dyno but still not what I wanted. The 800 number was a wheel spin spike 586 was fuel only and the 644 was spraying a .125 shot at about 900 psi bottle pressure all runs were done in od locked converter.

and of course video

So going to play with the gates and hope that helps! stay tuned kids!

A gt55 turbine on a 600hp(on nitrous) motor? You really need that mahle shirt. Bad!

That dyno had a sore ass and made you a spike or your crayon broke. Tells us more about how awesome that relative of a pig turbo is. Sounds sick, hope it stays together!

Quite respectable. I think that a 3rd gear pull locked up in 1:1 would net better numbers though. On the video, when the turbos started to lite off, was the smoke under the hood from the e gate or a huge exhaust leak?

Got a classic Vaoutlaw spike going on there.:hehe:

It'll come. Are you not bypassing any around the little turbine?

Que LOL I love how it runs but I need to tune dis hoe better :hehe:

Exhaust leak LOL 100+ psi drive pressure can do that to ya haha.

what did total boost hit on the dyno?

I'm really wishing I went with a s300 now instead of the 351.

wasn't watching to be honest I know the primary hit 25 psi, I think with enough gate properly controlled it will be ok.

Before I added the 40mm gate to my setup, I had over 100 psi drive to the secondary, and with an exhaust leak on the hotpipe, could only get the 82mm to boost up to 25-28 psi.

Now, internal gate closed off, external 40mm gate opening at 40 psi, drive to secondary is down to 65 psi, and output boost from the 82mm is up to 40 psi.

Still playing...

Good luck, nice to see you posting results on everything you try.

Cliff, that exhaust leak is probably 90% of the problem. Also, if your wastegate isn't able to smoothly open at the correct boost/drive pressure, that too will obviously hurt the output.

I also noticed on my dyno run, it was able to load the motor harder and longer than your run, possibly you were running on a small roller dynojet?

By the way, what size tires were you running on the dyno? I'd be curious to calculate the rpm and torque from your runs to see where it made peak power, might give a clue on how fast or slow it's spooling up.

305/50 r20's will. I reconfigured how I was controling the waste gate today an what do ya know when it opened it killed both turbos (obviously not set at the right pressure) LOL then it proceded to stick open. So its waste gate rebuild time. The guys at the shop calculated the numbers with peak hp at 3500 rpm and said tourqe would have been around 1800

On my dyno runs, I had 33" tall tires and they were ran in overdrive on the two higher HP runs.

The lower 632 HP run was started at roughly 3400 rpm and carried out to almost 4500 rpm. However, on the graph it looks skewed because it was overlaid based on MPH, not rpm and since it was performed in 1:1 direct drive 3rd gear, it doesn't overlay well.

On the highest run, 708hp, the peak power was made at 2724 rpm.

95mph = 2442 rpm
100 = 2570
105 = 2699
110 = 2827
115 = 2956
...
135 = 3470 rpm

305/50/20 standard size is 32" exactly, if you research you might be able to find more detailed information but 32" will get us really close. Using 32", 3.55 rear gear ratio, overdrive in transmission is 0.69, I was able to convert your MPH to RPM and then calculate torque.

The dyno guys must have used the wrong rearend gear ratio or assumed 1:1 in the tranny not 0.69 OD ratio if they came up with 1800 for torque.

Thanks will, I doubt they knew my rear end ratio or od ratio and 32 is close enough for me.
