In my opinion, this post illustrates the reason to get some rules in place. If you ask new pullers what their main concern is, it is that they don't know how to follow the rules because they are so mixed up from pull to pull. This discourages people and prevents them from getting too involved. Everybody will never agree on what rules to run, and I mean NEVER. If people are going to show up and pull all lumped together, it won't hurt to break them up in some reasonable classes, they still get to pull.
If you want to give a pull a try, that has rules (NADM), a purse ($4,200) and real tech inspection, come out to the Antelope Valley Fair Pull on August 29. We run 4 of NADM's classes - Work Stock, 2.6 Street, Super Street, and Modified. I didn't choose NADM rules because I have any particular attachment to them, but because they are being used quite a bit across the coutry already and because the classes would cover a lot of our trucks out here. Plus they agreed to help promote the pull a little. Again, these rules and classes will not be perfect for everyone, but they will be pretty good for most. Everyone does not have to meet every safety rule, but I would like to see some effort, and 3" rings are fine for the hitch because everyone asks.
I have been putting pulls on similar to this since 2004, most would agree we do pretty well. Go here for rules and registration.
