Post 60' Times, Manual Transmission

For the heck of it, I punched in a few 60 ft numbers into the Wallace Racing calculator and came up with this;
1.12 sec = 57 mph in just 60 feet.
1.65 = 41
1.75 = 39
1.85 = 37
1.95 = 35.5
2.05 = 34
2.15 = 32.5
2.25 = 31

The website has a bunch of cool calculations.
I even tried a couple reverse caculations using 1/4 et to find 60 ft times.
My best 13.34 et calculated out to a 1.85.
Calebs 11.92 converted to a guess what.........................................1.65.

Thats Pretty Cool, thanx for posting!

Well, my 13.5 ET was 2.6 60'... I'm sure if you put that in there it should tell you "what it should" be. not what they are. ET is so human error driven. mph is very difficult to mess up

And if you keep going down that list from 2.25 60's... damn, I must of been idling across the 60' beam to manage a 2.6.

Yes Jason, these are for "what it should be". It is helpful to show what areas need improvement.
My actual 60' on the 13.34 was 1.94.

BTW; I tried the 2.6 in the calc, but it just shows a turtle.LOL

How are you guy's launching, are you boosted launching if so how much, or just reving and dumping. The reason i ask, is that i shattered miy trans when i tried it, and i might want to try it again. and i have 3.54 gears.

For me, I'm revving from 3400 to 3800 and letting out the clutch a little slower than I would if I were driving down the road and shifting from 3-4 or 4-5. About 1 to 1.25 seconds.

I tried side stepping the clutch and it shock loads the drive train so hard it blows the tires off violently and my truck starts to bunny hop.

I noticed that keeping the tires aired up to 45-50 psi made launches easier for my Valair FE single disc clutch because they spin just a little without hopping and unloading.

One thing is for sure, a clutch launch feels much more violent than 20 psi boost launch in an auto. My 1.86 60' doesn't reflect that because I'm rolling after the first 35' trying to grind it into 3rd gear!

Dan, why don't you build me an ultra quick shifting double disc with a magical material that won't weld to the flywheel or floater plate and equipped with an internal spring or lever to separate the floater plate, flywheel and friction plates so there is zero drag when the clutch is depressed.

I'll bet my truck would break into 13's with a less clutch drag and new synchros.

I said before what I believed caused the dual disc's to shift slower, LOL i do have qucik shifting dual disc designed for drag racing. I'm running a weighted triple and can launch in 4th no problem. it's just hard getting the tires to hook up. and if they did i probably would throw the driveline. so next i'm gonna try another 3rd gear launch with less boost.

I dont dump it but i dont ride it either, I dont lauch off boost or rpms, i just kinda listen but my rpms now are usually around 3k and boost about 12~15 psi, 20 psi will blow the tires off, I just ride the clutch enough on the line to keep the drive line loaded, not enough to dog the engine down. when the lights fall ease it out quickly, dont slingshot it!! Also on a weighted tripple now!

I launch in 3rd, counting 1 through 6. I use third 90% of the time pulling out on the street as well though Im not sure of the ratio of 3rd in the zf, 4th gear is to much, Im currently thinking of uping the rears to 3.42's to get a bit more use out of 3rd on the launc and also keep the r's lower through the traps!

I always need to shift at or before the 60' mark lauching in 2nd with my 5 speed which is killing my time.
My next clutch will be a dual or tripple disc.
Brandon, you are also using a line lock, coorrect?

4WARNED, does your sig need updated?

I was blipping the throttle and then dumping it. Worked great until, it didn't work no more :hehe: I'm going to try to figure out a way to rig a removable/easy to install cable release so that I can have the e-brake set at the line and slip the clutch a bit and release it with the hand holding the steering wheel. Ghetto, yes........will it work.......maybe? I just know that I had zero luck trying the 3 pedal shuffle.

Ha Ha Ha! Eff that! I think I remember someone saying they saw a video of you doing that. Said you're arms were flying all over the cab! I would prefer to keep one hand on the wheel at all times myself, never know where this things gonna go :D Did I recall that correctly was there vids of you launching with the brake release? I'd love to see that!

Dr. Performance has a launch control box that may help.. the point of the box is to operate the throttle for you while the brakes are applied. It will maintain RPM no matter the load. I'm planning on getting on these things for next year here.

The idea:

1. apply brake
2. set the rpm, say 2000rpm. with box
3. engage clutch to apply load and create boost
4. dump clutch and move brake foot to throttle.

There's a .5 second delay where the box will hold the throttle for you while you make the transition with your foot. you should get your foot move and throttle at WOT and clutch out before the box stops controlling the throttle for you

you guys have been pulling out from the dig at 3000-ish rpm. that's hell on clutches as you know but it's the only way to make boost with out slipping... If you can slip at a lower rpm, but make boost quickly with out over reving with the aid of this box, I bet clutch life will last longer and you can use more of the gear with the clutch engaged vs slipped. It's just a theory, may or may not work out.

No i dont beleive the vids were of me, never had any takin, i never had any trouble with it though. Truck as always launched straight even while spining. THe line lock makes it like a sunday drive though!!
