Pro Street 1/2 Ton Suspension Conversion

Yes he has.... Some non- lockup setups are working extremely well in some cases.... The Pro-Mod guys have been doing it for years. It is no secret that the trucks with large, hard to spool twins go through converters like I change pants. The high stall requited to help light the chargers kills a converter when it goes into lockup. This is not a problem for most of the street driven guys, but there are some 4wds that would eat a converter after a pass or 2. The crummy part is that pulling lockup out hurts ET. I know of one team that lost over 3 tenths by taking lockup out in the 8th...

Well atleast that is an answer. Thank you.

In my case, I have both options laying on the floor. But the lockup will be the 1st used.

So, do you have two different transmissions sitting there? A non lock up and a lock up? I'll probabaly stay lock up for a while or until I can't any longer. But i doubt that will be an issue with mine. You have to have the power to kill it first. LOL

And weight is a factor there too...you will have a BIG advantage there;)

I have actually thought of a TH400, but I do not have the resourses to change out the converter 15 times- on top of anything that would break from being behind a twinned 12V..............

If you aren't using stupid big chargers, the lockup should be fine.

Do you think you would be the first to run that setup?
Not when you can get a factory adapter for a TH400.......

I know others use this trans, and I hear of the numerous teething issues they have had.....

Ryan had how many trans issues?

Who else is runnin a TH- with BIG Chargers? :poke:

I had an unreal tranny issues so bad I nearly ended the project, but these were the early days when a "Built" Glide was in place, not enough stator in a 11" unit period. This lead to the th350 due to the fact of being able to run the big 13" unit, but Nothing in that tranny was up to the task.... nothing. The next step was a 400, I decided to go stright for the best of parts like the Pro Mod guys use in them.... once a convertor was built and adjusted a time or 2 its been in there since, I even have its twin brother as a spare but knock on wood have not needed it.

Yet..

Some of those first dozon convertors were on my dime but several were eager to try thier hand at building a 11" unit to try and handle the abuse of the Cummins right in the heart of its torque curve..... they all failed. A couple others come to mind that have kind of gotten away with it but they deal with a super high stall speed and not near as effec. and thier in vechicels that have a large weight advantage..... you can get away with more when your weight is way down

Updates.....

Snedge has sent some pics of the IH casted head, shaved and ringed. Now I need it to do some bowl work-ect.ect.

Adam (BigYellowIron) is requesting some underhood measurements for the new intake as well.:evil:evil

I spent some of my little free time today to start prepping the Scheid front case cover for polishing. I ended off this session with 220grit. Will complete this preperation by the end of the week hopefully.:rockwoot:

sweet!!!!
Can't wait to see what Adam tools up.:woohoo: We had a discussion throwin ideas back and forth an I need to get him some clearance measurements under hood. With the cowl removed and some of the underhood bracing removed it should give some ample room......

:evilWho am I kidding:hehe: if I HAVE to cut the hood for clearance then I say stand back -sparks are gonna fly :hehe::hehe:

When Adam is done, the manifold will be checked underhood and quickly shipped out for some Jet-Hot Thermal Barrier Blingification Coatings.:rockwoot:

:evilFlanges are to be lasered tomorow.... Tubing shipped today....

Hey how many nitrous/ water bungs u want. What size and where.....

:Cheer: Nice! *nx* Adam, one thing I request is pics during the buildup. We can't dissappoint these guys without pics.:hehe:

The head back from it's machine shop visit- checked, shaved and ringed.... Snedge is gonna hold onto the head because we are seeking some additional options which will require another visit to the machine shop......

Looks good to me! Are you going to use the stock intake manifold or cut it off and run a custom one?

The intake that Adam is crafting would require the stock plenum to be milled off and eliminated......:evil:evil:evil
