silverbullet help

These parts are all new from Borg Warner. I never rule anything out. We have sold thousands of turbos with no problems. I have not seen any defective parts but you know I will look to make double sure. We have always used USA made parts from OEM turbo suppliers. WE DO NOT USE CHEAP OFFSHORE PARTS!!! Some shops will use Chinese made parts. I/We will not. We always use the best and supply the best turbos that can be made. Thanks, Brady

I don't doubt that Brady, I know you have quality products. I almost didn't post, but after reading this thread....felt it was needed. I'd hate to see thousands of turbos go out if there was a problem with bearings. I never had a problem with any of the products I've bought from you. I used HTT turbos because a friend is a dealer & money talks. After having issues with HTT, I've taken my business to II [turbos]. I'm a customer for life.

standard 66/74/14
looking to go bigger now they said they can do a 71 wheel on it but im not looking to spend another 1100 for this upgrade

I would like you to physically pull the piston and spring out and visually check it out. Yes putting a gauge on the oil supply line would be good to ensure the oil pump is also working.
When installing our turbos on Dodge trucks, the oil supply line will end up draining all the oil out. We have always purged the air out of the line by hooking up the oil line to the turbo fitting but leaving it very loose. Crank the engine until it purges all the air out completely. If the engine starts just shut it off right away. After the air is gone and good oil flow is established then tighten the fitting. Start the engine and let it idle for 5 minutes. Listen and look for any exhaust leaks, oil leaks or anything unusual. If all is clear then driveaway. Thanks

ill take it apart tomorrow thanks for all the help ill report back if i find anyhting wrong.

how much boost psi is a bullet good for, when i put it on the truck it was doing 60 psi and i didnt even touch the allen screw or the wastegate. also how it says that its good for 800hp on the site is that on spray or fuel

I know that I made close to 800 on a little bit of spray on a CR with 50 lbs of boost!

I love my bullet!

Cummins724, I know our customers that have used our products know that we use only the best. But some don't know us. We appreciate you and all our customers. I know it's hard to get a hold of us some times. We try to help everyone. We just took two days off for Easter. We went down to Zion National Park as a family. We very rarely do this because too many of us are gone all at the same time. Brett stayed back at the call center and ended up overwhelmed. We are all very sorry if any of you did not get handled or taken care of. Looks like we will take separate time off from now on. Sorry!

You guys should take time like that. I have no hard feelings, I love your products. I don't think it was purposely done or anything like that....just know mistakes aren't always your fault either. I've bought bearings before, installed them & were bad out of the box. I also have seen shafts which were out of round or bent. I'm not blaming you guys, believe me.:Cheer:

Have you checked your oil pressure regulating piston and spring. The oil filter header has this mechanism built into it. Many mechanics will ignor this part of the engine. If the piston is worn or stuck or sticks intermitentlyQUOTE]

im about to take it apart. do i have to take the filter housing off the oil coolerto access this or just remove the filter, does anyone have a pic of this and do i need gaskets to reinstall it

any one have info on how to test or check the oil pressure piston/spring in the oil filter housing. want some info so i dont take apart anything more than i need to

There is a closing plug 3/4-1" on the housing. You should be able to access it without taking the filter head off. What happens to these regulators is, the piston gets gouged and worn. The spring can loose tension or break. Sometimes the housing also gets worn out. We had a 04 Dodge truck in our shop that had a rebuilt engine in it. It had been rebuilt in the Northwest part of the country. We found the regulator was bad (Housing and piston). This had caused turbo failure in that instance. I am not saying that everyone will see this failure but it seems to get overlooked a lot. I am passing this on to you in hopes that it may help.

I did check all our thrust bearings and sleeves. They are perfect just like Borg Warner intended them to be. Thanks, Brady

thanks for the info, ill do it tomorrow when i have a chance, hope the bullet will be good for along time after this rebuild and if i find any problems on my end,
thanks for all the help everyone

I riged a funnel up to the return line and just started the truck with the oil feed line running into the funnel. I wanted to see the flow myself. Just makes life a lot easier when you can actually see the flow of oil comming out of the feed line.

Vwhat  , what issues ? Please do share.

When I removed my turbo to trade a guy for a Super B special, I noticed the turbo had in/out play. I called HTT & told them that I needed a basic rebuild. They quoted me $500. I also needed to exchange a compressor housing which I bought from them 3 months & 2 weeks earlier. They refused to exchange my housing because it was longer than 3 months. I called II & they quoted me $300, but also exchanged my housing free of charge. I had other issues very similar to this in the past, but this one put me over the edge. You know how many turbos I bought from them? Hell, I recommended them to 8 friends of mine who all bought turbos, not including the time I talked highly of them at the dyno. You remember that? I believe I also told you about HTT back then. Every time I've called Brady, he has treated me right. I have 3 of his injection pumps on my trucks, loved his Dragon injectors....why not just keep my business [turbos] with him as well.:rockwoot:

i checked it out today and everything seemed fine nothing damaged in the filter housing and there was good oil flow coming out of the feed line with it running at idle so i hope it was just a bad bearing or something like that and it is all better when the new one goes back on

i took it apart and it is fine ther are no sctatches on it or burs it moves freely in the housing. here is a pic of it

01Cummins, Before you went to the II Silver Bullet was the turbo you replaced shot, if not I don't believe there is a problem on your end. Think about it. Thanks Steve B.

ya the turbo the the bullet replaced was bad, it was a II phat shaft 66 it lasted for a while until i added alot more fuel then it. so i upgraded thinking i didnt have anough charger for the fuel but then the new one went out. i have good oil pressure and flow, so the only other thing that would be on my end is over spooling it, I dont think im over spooling it bec II says its good for 800 and i only did 524 at 60# but i also couldnt get it to light on the dyno until 2600 rpm, it was a light roller dyno only 3800lbs

how much in and out shaft play is acceptabe for the turbo, my new one has some again and im wondering how much is the limit, i know that none is what you want i just cant stand sending it out every few weeks to have thrust washers put in it,
Also whats the max egt that they can live with for few second pulls (5-10sec), and what about cruising egt. mine is at 850-1000on level ground to very slight incline, im wondering if thats to hot to be holding it at for long peroids of time,
Any input would be greatly appreciated
