Give Jeff Garmon a call, he is just down the road in Atlanta, whether you use him to build the motor or not I would call and talk to him about where you want to go with the truck etc.

This really sucks Triton, but I must say your attitude about the whole deal is one of the best I have seen in a while, best of luck :rockwoot:

Yeah, I had my tranny built by Garmon. I will probably give him a call but, he's not too receptive when ever I've talked to him before. Doesn't elaborate much. Thanks for the suggestion though.

It's not really the way I wanted to learn about diesels but, things happen and there's no use whining about it. I just gotta fix it. Besides....if I'm gonna play track with a mega cab... problems are expected !:poke: I can now add diesel mechanic to my list of back up jobs :-)

with that bigger turbo you wont need all that, just keep those temps under control and you will have happy pistons that wont melt into the oil pan.$.02

Not if I'm pushing 1000hp ! muhohohahaha as I rub my hands together is a devious way.

Give him a call again and see if you can schedule a time to talk with him- chances are that you caught him when he was crunched for time.

If it were mine, I'd strip it to the short block and send it off to be rebuilt by my favorite builder. In fact, that's what I've done in the past.

What kind of shipping cost did you have ? Also, do you mind mentioning a favorite builder ? I think once the block and head work is done... I can handle the rest. Do I want to is the question :what:

I'll see if Garmon cares to get involved tomorrow. Getting it to him is a $350 tow truck bill ! and I'm not sure if i can afford him !

I don't mind mentioning my builder- F1 Diesel. Unfortunately he's no longer offering short blocks. Since Garmon is close to you, I have no problem recommending him either. Let us know how it goes with Garmon!

Any News?

It's in the works. I talked to Garmon but, he's in the middle of moving out of his shop. He was supposed to call me back with some info but, as expected.... he never did.

I'm working with Scheid now. They're going to build a competition head for me.
I'll add a cam and I may do some Arias pistons on the bottom end. Add in a dual CP3 and I think I'll be good to go.

I don't know that I'll be able to run with you big boys but.....I think it will be bad azz. There needs to be a "mega " class on the track for those of us with sherman tanks :-)

Very cool. Can you get any specs on the head, such as what percentage it will flow more than stock???

Listening intently....:pop:

I'll see what I can find out. In talking with several different people though.... it's a big difference. From pics I've seen, quite a bit of head is removed and polishing is like night and day from stock.

If you really want to know sooner.... the guy that had that 1000hp mega in Diesel Power can tell you. I talked to him the other day and he says they're about to break the 1200hp mark with his truck.

I know it isn't as big of a performance gain in a boosted environment as ours, but, when I ran my big block Chevy with Dart Pro1 heads I saw a huge improvement when I had Dart cnc port them. Can't remember exact numbers but I seem to remember 75rwhp over the stock Dart's. It's all about airflow. 45psi boost on a stock Cummins head and 45psi on a ported head HAS to be a world of difference in airflow quality and quantity and POWER....:rockwoot:

I counting on it :evil Sometimes it's the detail that counts !

if you have say 60lbs of boost on stock head when you comp port it you will lose roughly half of that with the turbo spinning the same RPM's. the head becomes very efficient. $.02

Man I hate that for you but Scheid will be a good choice for you. Nothing wrong with Garmin, but Scheid is one of the others I was going to suggest. Good luck with everything. You should have a fire breathing monster (a little cooler than before however) when they get done.

Which means it's easier on related parts and easier to make MORE POWER...:st:

if it was me i wouldnt let scheid "tune" my truck or sell me fuel related parts...they dont know common rails like they do 12 valves...in indiana finding anyone who knows common rails is far and very few between, i'm hoping to change all that soon...

Scheid will know the bottom end and head as well as anyone. Granted their 12 valve prowess is well known, but who would know a CR truck any better?

All the builders I can think of are 12 valve specialist. Scheid, Haisley, Enterprise and Garmon. I think a lot of that is because the 12 valve is still king so that is what they are known for.
