Truckers, lets see your rigs!

No B...

I'm lucky a friend of my dads is good at pulling out studs that are broke off. He builds up the stud then welds a nut to it and pulls it right out. Was able to pull both studs and helicoils out.

Any of you guys by chance have experience with tuning Mack ETEC ecus?

Just broke two exhaust manifold studs off in the head, both were helicoiled.... Caterpillar engineers must have been on Christmas break when they put 3/8" studs in these things!

Lol no the Christmas break was when they decided to try stainless studs.

I drilled/tapped mine for 7/16 studs and so far so good.

If this head ever comes off I'd like to put 7/16" studs in it. But now there's no telling how many of these that have been helicoiled.

I swear they must have been using them in the gas engines a one day decided hey let's try these on a truck engine.

They respond very well to tuning, stock they are one of the laziest around but they really wake up after tuning.

Nah, those larger headlights just ruin the look for me, plus I don't care for the slammed look.

If rather just see it lowered a reasonable amount.

I agree. I want an old a model bad. whatever I get I want cummins power. Would love to swap a 2350 with a lot of custom work

Had a guy talking to me about a 73 W925, has a big cam and 13spd in it for $6K. In Ohio.

Not exactly sure, but I can put you in contact if interested. I think maybe down around Gallipolis.

We had an engineer at Mack write the tune that's on our B model drag truck, but I'm a little concerned about it still be limited to 2200rpm. I can imagine 26-2800 should be feasible with no loads for short periods of time.

Well unfortunately both of the studs that I broke off taking my exhaust manifold off were Helicoiled by someone along the lines. I spent most of the day yesterday chasing down a Helicoil that would work in the holes that were already tapped. I had no such luck.

Any suggestions on where to go from here?

What size bolts? On what engine?

Original exhaust manifold studs are 3/8". These have been drilled and tapped quite a bit bigger to accept a helicoil. The two studs that broke off, broke flush with the head. A friend of mine was able to weld a nut to the stud and pulled the stud and helicoil out together. And wouldn't you know both are different size helicoils.

I can thread a 1/2" bolt into one of the holes, but the other wont tighten a bolt down. It acts like the threads were stripped out.

Do they have helicoils in them or the cat threaded inserts?

I wasn't aware cat had threaded inserts. I'm not sure if I'd know the difference.

To be honest I've never used a helicoil before my failed attempt yesterday.

To all the peterbilt experts. Is there a way to tighten up the door hinge on a 379. So the door can't get into the air breather?

Like opening to far? There should be a limiter. It's either broke or gone.

every engine can take 3000 rpm.

I called my friend, he said his 480 E-tech Mack is revving at least 2400 rpm, he has never tried what is maximum. But the fuel is cut down over 2000 rpm so not much power there. There's another close to us that pulls full power to max rpm then comes hard cut and it's banging like those canadian rodeo trucks at the limiter. Both are tuned by Ekotuning http://www.ekotuning.com/?p=7
