Truckers, lets see your rigs!

All of the cams are dying. It's the motor oil.

Junk parts. Why would a roller cam need a lot of zinc? The oil still has good film strength.

Make of it what you want. Engines that have run their entire lives on CJ4 are roaching cams with less than 1 million miles. Engines that predated the oil are seeing 1.2-1.5

I guess everyone changed their cam hardening process circumstantially as CJ4 was ushered in.

Well I guess you need to start running some higher zinc oil like Lucas mag then huh

Baloney it's not the oil it's the hardening process. Cummins had tons of issues years ago too.

My dads Volvo has 2.1 million miles on it zero issues with the cam. I bet there's tons of engines like that too. My detroit cam has 1.6 million on it with typical detroit wear that isn't an issue.

A known instance of defect is not an argument against observation across multiple engine platforms in multiple vocations. And neither is your daddy's wind pulling Volvo.

Right because those vocational or heavy haulers are sure harder on their cams. I forgot.

But there is something common: They use the same oil

So you don’t think a vocational truck or heavy hauler is harder on oil than a guy pulling 8000# of toilet paper across Kansas? Your dumber than we already though.

So are you guys seeing cam issues on pre electronic Cats and common rail ISX?

From what I've seen only stuff with cam driven injectors have a lot of issues.

The statement that anything running Cj4 or newer oil is wiping a cam 200k sooner is subjective to say the least. Different drivers, different terrain, extreme temps, non scheduled maintenance will throw a wrench in your own "R&D"

I got a comman rail cummins in right now gettin a cam and 3 exhaust rockers. DOHC cam cummins seldom wiped out injector cams. Most generally they ate valve cams. Ive seen quite a few cats chit out too, usually 6nz and newer

I don't need to start running anything. I make my money from replacing worn cams.

It's good to hear other viewpoints. I'm gonna chill.

I do a little of both but I haven’t had personal cam issues since the C12/C13 which was common BUT all my trucks get oil changes at 12-15k. No useless oil samples, no snake oil additives, no fancy filters ect. Just normal 15W40 Rotella and roll.

Last S60 we did got a cam but it also needed a head, ISX is pretty common for cam issues but I just attributed it to extended drains, low oil pressure and Chinese quality parts.

Oil samples are like a fat guy owning a bathroom scale. What’s the point if your not going to do anything different.

How black has the oil been on your engine when you have changed it?

Delvac and the water they call T4 rotella just don’t have the TBN to handle high soot in the oil anymore.
