Twins Progress (pics)

what size compressor wheel does the 3788 have? you have any pictures of the setup?

I recommend the RustOleum Hammer metal paint for the cold pipe. It looks really good IMO.

The GT3788R has a 63.8mm inducer and 72mm turbine disk

Here is a snap. Sorry, its complete set-up. I have modifed the turbine housing so I can put in a 42mm larger flapper on the wastegate and ported the flow passage some. I ran 1.5 inch tubes on the exhaust manifold and used a T-03 flange for the manifold.

The last one is a GT3782R over a BTH-3B set-up that I ran last year.

Next week I'm building a GT3588R over a S366. I'm putting in a 42mm external gate. I'm gonna run 1.25in on the exhaust manifold.

Mike, in the third pic, the boot on your primary inlet. where can i find one of those please? i need one with that angle

why even plumb up the coolant to the top?

I just went down to my local big rig parts depo, they have these biggie turbo on the shelf, and you just pick out the inlet boot that you need. The primary turbo compressor discharge flange came from a local turbo shop.

The garrett 3788R is a ball bearing unit, without coolant, the bearing will not last. There is also a restrictor for inlet oil into the turbo. The garrett can take some decent amount of abuse.

Ya, it spools-up nice. Tons of air, I just need more fuel to really run this set-up. I built them for dyno and drag racing stuff, I would guess that this set-up would have enough air for 700-800rwhp engine.

I'm building a different set for my daily driving. I want even faster spool-up. I'm guessing that the GT35R will be up into the compressor map at engine idle. I'm gonna run a 42mm external gate and go into a S366. I want my daily driver to be around 500-550rwhp, and to spool like now, with decent egt's, no more than 1200 deg's and still run a stock looking 4in exhaust. I don't want to tip off the guy beside me that I can run with him.

Rockjeep, just want to help you out abit. I put on a air line brace, so that that cool air tubing that goes into the secondary inlet, stays into position and attached. I just ran a 1/2in wide flat bar up to and into one of the compressor housing bolts. My air tubes has a habit of poping off. Mine works pretty nice, almost instant spool-up.

Finished up the plumbing tonight, gonna test drive it tomorrow.

You get any run time on the new twins yet? Update us on what you think of your set-up.

I have but I am still breaking in the motor so I havent been able to really see what they are capable of yet. I still need to plumb the boost source to the external gate which I havent had a chance to do yet, it made 60psi at about half throttle before I backed out of it so I need to get that done. I will say the spoolup is excellent and they start making a lot of boost early, so far I am extremely happy with how they drive. I will keep you updated on how things go once everything else is dialed in.

Got the wastegate hooked up and got some drive time in tonight. Cruise numbers, 65mph, about 1700rpm, 4-5psi, 800*.

I think I got the wastegate adjustment pretty close, brought it up to 70psi in OD for a couple seconds, still trying to get some miles on the motor before I abuse it. I plan on racing the truck this weekend and will post the results.

Nice job, it looks awesome! What did you use to weld up the piping a tig or mig and what material is the hot pipe made out of? Also let us know how it cleans up those Mach 6's. Excellent job man.
