1972 Chevy K30 Longhorn Cummins Build

Thanks. I am trying to get it scheduled in to get the bed and parts of it repainted soon. Now I'm contemplating building a crew cab for it, but IDK. I may just build another truck instead. LOL

Good grief you are as bad as me. You can't even finish a project before you tear it apart again. LOL

Very Very Nice!! Iv'e put over 50-k mikes on my 70 12 valve burb., Great to see your truck as i just got reved up project 72 Crew Cab Long Horn 12 Valve NV5600, 3 gen chassis. That should get your eye brow up a bit. I'll post some pics in the next few days.

That'll be awesome!

Opening this up

Thank you sir.

I decided last fall to remove the 5 speed and go auto. It's got a built 47rh with a billet input from Phil Taylor, Goerend vb and tc, all billet servos, blah, blah, blah.:) I also put new wheels and tires on it too. Pics to come later.

Kool beans. I'll have to get out there and check out the porjects again!!!

The gap between more and enough never changes.

This past Saturday I got the wife to help me move the Horn in the shop. Her arms were hurting a bit after that deal. :) I have to remove my grill to install my trans cooler so I'm trying to decide to leave the stock type or install my billet insert? I like both so it's a toss up to me.

I'm finally getting around to installing my White Rhino Fab bumper too. It's beastly for sure! I've got to drill the holes for it tomorrow. That should be good fun. (Not really) :)

I picked up a 21gal tank from one of my budies that I'm going to try to fit in the back of the frame for now. I really want a 35-40 gal tank in the end, but right now time is the issue. This one should work fine and make a guy feel like he's driving cheap with such a small tank. :)

One of my brother's friends gave him a whole kit of Al's liner, and he gave it to me. (Actually I took it out of his hands. Haha) So now I have to get the gun and 2 more kits to do my bed the way I want to do it.

Some slow progress on the pumpkin truck. It won't be making Des Moines good guys this year. I decided not to rush it together to bring it back home and continue working on it.

I put different air bags on it because I didn't like how the other ones wouldn't air up as far as I'd like. Plus they looked super full.

Air in them with truck level.

I am redoing my exhaust and working on getting duals out the back behind the tires. All my exhaust is 4" but it will turn to 5" before it gets to the rear tires. I made my own Y pipe and the exhaust goes over the frame rail and will follow the frame until the air bag mounts and after that, they will go down and out. Once I get the exhaust ran I will be removing the bed to finish it and then paint it along with re-painting the frame and 4 link bars and stuff.

My transmission is done so now I need to repaint it and finish my trans mount. I'm debating changing my trans cross member too, but I may leave it as I might have entire new plans for this truck. Or another, can't decide. I also found out my little gas tank isn't going to work. So now it's time to draw up a stainless one I believe.

Here's a couple hours of work and contemplation. Sure doesn't look like it. :) I did decide I get to alter/modify my upper air bag brace so I can run the exhaust where I want to.

A few weeks ago I decided I needed to get this truck to drive again. I've been working at it, but other things keep detouring it. :( I got the 47rh cleaned and repainted. I installed my double deep trans pan and installed a port for the temp probe. I had to clean up my Goerend torque converter as it surface rusted from sitting in the box for so long. I installed a new SFI rated flex plate, then bolted the trans in. I also built a new trans mount, resealed and replaced a couple of bearings in the NP205, and got it in.

New rear driveshaft done. I need to install it.

I still have to bolt the TC in, make a top bracket for my Lokar trans dipstick, hook up the shift linkage, hook up the TV lever stuff, modify the tcase shift handle, wire the trans and tcase sensor. I'm making a new bracket for my pedal to hydra boost push rod, and need to put the fire wall insulation on and new fuse block on before I put the brake pedal assy in for the last time. Plenty to do.

I shopped around for seat belts and finally pulled the trigger on some from Wesco. They are 3pt retractable shoulder belts for bucket seats. Black in color, with GM logos on the recepticles. I also got a retractable lap belt too. Man, it's been a long time since I've purchased new seat belts. It was tough to let go of that cash for them. :) I also ordered a Dakota Digital VHX gauge cluster for it. Hopefully soon I can get the truck wired and hear it run again!

I guess I can go ahead and report on some parts and progress I did make a couple months ago on it before I stopped working on it again. I had a hard time trying to figure out how I was going to add extra gauges without them looking dumb or being too hard to see. So I purchased a Dakota Digital VHX cluster. I also got enough modules and sensors to do 2 boost gauges, a pyro, trans temp, and an extra temp box that may go in the rear diff. Then I got polished finned aluminum diff covers, a viair 480c compressor, and a rather stupid large trans cooler. I also started restoring a grill shell for it. I started by removing the clear anodizing, then straightening out any dents, and sanding the shell. It still isn't finished. I also modified a grill emblem because I wanted something different.
